To rephrase the title in a grammatically correct way: I have a mechanics question regarding speccing a pet for farming water elementals for motes of water.

I know they use frost damage on their water bolts, so I'm thinking frost resistance would help. But I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that while their autoattack is frost damage, it can be mitigated by armor, but I'm not sure which one or if its both.

So...water elemental auto-attack, is it:
A) Mitigated by armor
B) Mitigated by frost resistance
C) Mitigated by both

EDIT: Also, since they dont deal physical damage, would the screech debuff lower their damage done? Or does AP not affect them?

B.

They're effected by AP debuffs and can be dodged or parried, but you cannot block their attacks (which doesn't make much of a difference to you, admittedly). Armor doesn't decrease the damage you or your pet takes, but resistance does the same as a normal spell (partial resists, etc.)

Okay, thanks RPZip!

Wanna know the funny thing? I was thinking about asking in the warrior forum (since warriors understand melee things better than hunters), but it looks like the warriors came to me instead.

My pet can block. You're saying the attack is unblockable?

What you say !!

So the nice "Block" I sometimes get over my pig's avatar is a lie? The (XX blocked) in Combat messages aren't there?

You know what, I'll take a screenie next time I play. It's too late tonight to try it..

I saw water elemental in the title and thought you might need help from a mage. Smiley: laugh

So watch out.. IT'S A TRAP!

A new day. Now to get started on screenshotting my pig blocking something. You better not have been lying to me, pig!

So, yeah. That didn't take long at all. Got a block on the second target.

Pigs *can* block.

They also parry.

And again, a block I missed the "Block" over the picture, since things go so fast. But this time, a full block.

RPZip is the new old me.

Except he's more articulate. And he can back up his knowledge with math and fancy facts. I never could.

I kind of like him. Would like to keep him as a pet, but I don't think I can.
