New Spec Question.Follow

#1 Dec 21 2007 at 2:55 PM Rating: Decent
Now im sure someone has done this before but currently i raid everything from kara to ssc/tk content and im pretty happy with affliction and my current spec. I also do arena allot and enjoy that, affliction has suited me well in both of these regards since i havent had to respec for arena then back to raid.

Ive been toying with the idea of switching my current pretty cookie cutter build with something a bit more edgy like:

LINK

My question to the more informed is will this outperform my current spec on both fronts? pvp and raids?

As far as the "spell hit" questions right now im in my trash gear which is ok on hit for that, my boss gear has 194 spell hit. So im close, once i get my s2 spellblade i'll be hit capped.

check my sig for my locks armory page

some problems i found with the build for constructive criti-however you spell it.

dont need both dark pact and imp life tap

shadow embrace doesnt effect soul siphon in case thats why you only put 1 point in it.

other than that its pretty close to my current build.

happy hunting =D

I'd think this is a bit more rounded and puts some of your skills into work more fluently.

I'm not gonna knock devastation at all here (it's nice) but without Ruin it's really only half complete. Would be like a Shatter Mage without Ice Shards...

The fact about Sbolt/Sburn is that they are great DPS even without abnormally high crit%, and for most intents and purposes you'll be relying at least as much on your affliction for damage, and relying a ton on it's utility (of which Destruction has relatively none.)

Improved Drain Soul's return effect is broken, and the spell itself relatively useless in most grind situations and especially in PVP. The threat drop is nice, but in groups you'll probobly be getting more threat from SBolt spams anyways...

Shadow Embrace 1/5 is still a nice choice as it adds another magic debuff that must be taken care of which when used in conjunction with UA can really freak people out.

Suppresion 3/5 will get you full effect in PVE, and 5% (instead of 6%) in PVP which is still argueably better than spending that point anywhere else on the board.

With this build you'll need Fel Concentration 5/5 (I've never even seen someone have 2/5 in it before).

Improved CoA adds about 3% dps if you're doing DoT/Fear rotations... if you're in a group or doing Sburn/Sbolts it adds even less... stear clear.

Fel intellect is argueable here, and it can actually be a toss up between that and Improved Imp (for the Blood Pact bonus) or Malediction (for raiding especially). I like intellect because it gives me a bit more to Pact off the Imp, and gives me that +3%mp no matter how I'm getting my mana (buffs, +mana, ect).

The build's a nice alternative to the cookie-cutter SL/SL but it's definatly got different purposes and strengths. I still lose to SL/SL with it... probobly more so than not unfortunately... Oh well~

could it be that you were looking for this build?

once you get some nice crit rating take out UA and get ruin.

i tried checking your armory. but it said you were to inactive to show it. also ignore the comment about "with darkpact, you don't need imp. LT". it's ********* for starters darkpact will ,AT BEST, cover 40% of your mana for a warlock with felint and a fully raid buffed pet. otherwise it's like 20-30% of your mana so you'll still need lifetap and imp.LT is still worthwhile

2ndly. got no idea what your current spec is, so can't compare. but with the spec you linked i'd make a few changes.

firstly. don't get imp.CoA. it works out as roughly 100 extra damage across the ENTIRE spell (it adds before +dmg and shadow modifiers, so it's ****) take those points and either put them in suppression if you're not at 202 +hit(16%) from gear.. otherwise put them into fel concentration. other than that... nothing much i can say about the spec.. pretty standard spec.
