4-5 stat gear vs. 'dedicated' gear for pvpFollow

#1 Dec 19 2007 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
I am currently specced feral (at 70) which I love for pve. I have recently had a resurgence in desire to pvp, and finally get involved in arena. In the bg's I've done, I've found that focused feral gear doesn't afford me many options. I usually seem to join a fight on my 'saber and dismount by regrowthing someone, then rooting, cycloning, and healing more (I play AB and EotS cause I'm alli and we can actually win there). I run out of mana quickly, needless to say. Then i usually go bear (recently started wearing my tanksuit in bg, I can usually last until our next rezbomb goes off. Don't score too high on the board w/ that, heh.)

In these forums I recently saw the standard arena build, and it looks great. My next goal is to ding exalted w/ shat'tar to buy that great healing mace and then L2heal in bg's and then hit arena hardcore.

My question is this: I have 4/5 moonglade set which has a balanced set of 4-5 stats on it plus a modest healing bonus. Would I be better served by wearing that and some of the heroic pieces w/ balanced stats that I have? Or go for a full-on healing set with all the mana and +heal goodies...

My current feral set is a combination of heroic drops and kara drops, so It's decent. My healing set consists of the moonglade stuff and a few heroic drops that I traded a shard to roll on (I don't believe in taking someone's shard for an off-spec item to sit in my bank, which they have for 6mo.)I know that resilience is important, but getting arena ready is a slightly longer term goal at the moment, and I'll probably shoot for S1 gear and grab the healing stuff.

Thanks for your opinions.

It is a bit tough to balance your stats like this. I would probably go with mainly feral gear or mainly healing gear. If you take too much Int/+heal, then you won't do enough damage when in your forms.

I have very little resilience yet, but I use a mix of my kitty gear & bear gear to get plenty of AP & crit while still having a decent amount of stam (10k in kitty is nice to aim for).

Same with my PvP healing gear - i swap some high stam gear into my PvE healing gear for a bit of survivability.

Once you get some honor & arena pts you can start getting the PvP gear which has resilience and often a decent mix of stats. It just takes a while to start getting the nice stats you want.

At the end of the day - it really doesn't matter too much to start. BG's would be fun and get you honor even if you ran around wearing nothing but your rocket helm. And even if you lose most of your arenas, you will still end up getting 100-200+ arena pts a week.

Just enjoy it and keep working on your gear. :)

for healing its a good idea to go dedicated. high int, high stam, high armor are your priorities, picking up as much +healing as you can along the way. obviously resilience is a must have too, but that comes naturally with pvp and arena gear.

for feral, a more hybrid gearset is generally better (or at least i think it is) because you need to have that int to shift and to support, yet you still want to be a threat via damage. some of it also depends on your role and group makeup, as a feral druid in a 5's with two other healers and another CC probably wont need to do much supporting outside of the odd innervate or cyclone, and thus can focus more on the dps stats.

ultimately its a judgement call if youre feral, altho imo the guiding principle should be "when the **** hits the fan, am i equipped to help both myself and others survive?" in other words, if youre in a situation where youve got one ally at your side versus three opponents, do you have the mana to do whats necessary, namely shifting, healing them, and CCing as necessary. if the answer is yes, then youre good to go. if not, then you need to add more int.
