Just a quick question... While leveling is it worth it to get the best gear off the AH everytime you level? Or would I be better off with just getting gear as I go, and not spending hours of frustration farming for said gear?

In my book, no it is not worth spending cash in the AH every level, or even farming for gear.

My huggable druid is currently lvl 60 and speeding upwards (if I only had the time) and to be honest, when I entered Outlands I was still equipped with quite a few lvl 35-40 items.

I did fine with them. I could DPS with ease, and I could tank Ramparts without breaking a sweat. (Yes, the healer did an awesome job).

Now the gear is starting to change though. Rapidly.

This is of course from the perspective of being a Feral druid.

Especially with feral druids, gear upgrades aren't that important. As long as you get gear with decent Str/Agi/Stam, you'll be fine. Your feral form damage levels with you up to 60, so it's like getting a free new weapon every level. After that you need to get the feral staff weapons that add X attack power in Dire Bear/Cat/Moonkin form.

If you're leveling as balance or resto... can't help ya there. I went from 1 to 70 Feral.

Feral as well. My druid was an alt who became my main, so I had a few gold and greater knowledge to 'do it right'. I didn't mess around with keeping greens updated every few levels, but rather invested in blues that actually lasted from low 30's all the way into my 50's, in 2 cases. if you're feral, i highly recommend the wolfwear harness, a level 31 blue w/ a ton af agi. It lasted me to the high 40's if I recall. Flintrock shoulders were great for me too. The quest reward pants from Gnomer will outclass greens into the 50's I believe, although there are some good blue options before then as well. My druid began life as a twink, so I had invested in the tigerstrike mantle- which almost gets you to outland without a green on your back. Since you use blues for so long, it's a good idea to strech them even further by researching the more reasonable enchants. You can get vision dust level enchants for a song, typically.

If you roll pvp server, it's a joy to stay well geared. I would frequently beat casters 5-6 levels over me (with 'the jump', of course), and rarely got beaten until outlands' resurgence of ganking.

I never, ever buy armor or weapons on the AH until at least 70 when I know what is something that won't be easily replaced.

The money is much better spent on enchants, gems etc or even just saved for your epic flight form. Even on a PvP server, most times you get ganked it is by someone at least 5 levels higher (or multiple enemys) than you and the better gear won't make much difference anyway.

Even at 70, I found an epic that I sold for 1900 gold and the money can disappear so quick (I already had my epic flight form). Enchants & gems for new gear upgrades can cost 100's and then you have repair bills, elixirs etc. Buying stuff while leveling is bascially throwing the gold away.

My priest went from 53-58 in about 6 hours play the other day - the new leveling speed is fantastic (it was all rested XP though). So even your blues will be outdated fairly quick anyway.
