PVE Help: Rotation and build.Follow

#1 Dec 19 2007 at 1:27 PM Rating: Excellent
Following Nooble's advice, I have been playing 11/27/23 in pve for quite sometime now.

Turns out tho, that while this build did outperform Combat, it didn't outperform my pvp build of 31/30.

We first discovered it when one of my guildmate forgot to respec, and to surprise, actually outdpsed me.

So I went 31/30 as well, saving respec cost after pvp, and ended up beating my 11/27/23 spec.

Key in this was using AR extremely early, then waiting for it to cooldown, and using it again when the ennemy was below 35% and then using Prep to use it a 3rd... thus abusing Dirty Deeds. You're Energy starved all the time, but the result was there - more dps overall.

And for what it's worth, AR does help your dps on Trash.

Honestly, this doesn't make sense to me. Deadlyness and Double AR should not make up for the 11 point in Assassination. But it did. And for what it's worth, Xerix (I think i got the spelling right? He's one of the first dual Warglaive rogue) is using 31/30 for pve.

Is it because we're in SSC, and the majority of bosses don't let you just sit there and do non-stop dps? Is it because I'm not doing something right?

Comments?

I suppose in a way it, doesn't matter, since both 31/30 and 11/27/23 are going the way of the dodo next patch, but I figure it'll make the forum a bit more lively... and if the dps difference is caused by a flaw in my playstyle, then that's something I want to improve anyway.

I went through the same thing though I did much less DPS as AR/Prep.

I was 950 to 1000 DPS in ZA (bosses only) as 11/27/23 using a 5s/5r rotation.

When I did the same bosses with 31/30 I was from 850-900, so about 100dps loss. Even while I was getting 3x AR's in a fight. What I noticed the most was I had to use almost all of my CPs just keeping SnD up, with no imp SnD, relentless, and ruthless really kills a good finisher rotation.

Has anybody given 30/26/5 a try for PvE? How does it compare to straight combat?

I highly doubt anybody has tried out that spec at all - since it SUCKS.

That's my working theory.

Ruthlessness should be about 25 Energy every 17.5s, or 1.42 EpS (aprox). When it's active Adrenaline Rush is 10 EpS for 15s every 5m, or an average of... .5 EPS.

The difference is the fight length. It's .5 EPS if you use it, then don't get to use it again for five minutes. If the fight lasted five minutes, fifteen seconds and you could use it twice then you'd see it at .95 EPS. If the fight lasted five minutes, thirty seconds and you could use it three times you'd see it at 1.36 EPS.

It rarely works out that perfectly, but it _does_ work out in that range in most SSC/TK boss fights. Plus, of course, you aren't fighting the whole time (thus nerfing Ruthlessness) and you can control the sustained burn to be during Dirty Deeds, which is a huge damage boost.

This ignores Ruthlessness and Malice, but they'd both be... well, caught in the noise, especially if you have the +AP talent from Subtlety which is a fair trade for Malice. Factor in the additional point of Sword Spec (or WE) you had to skip with 11/27/23 and it probably works out.
