Im currently lvling a warlock alt(lvl 47 now(Affliction))together with a mage of the same lvl(Fire).

When we do quests , he kills the target before my DoTs begin to tick.
you would say: so? thats nice mate
well im feeling completely useless now exept in some encounters with multiple mobs where i can do some good CC but thats all :\

Actually he is killing me! because i cant finish my drain life, im ending up life tapping my health away ... and with full mana. i feel my spel rotation isnt working with someone else helping.

Maybe affliction lock isnt the right combination with a fire mage, because affliction lacks the pure raw burst damage which fire mages do have.

Is it a good idea to switch to destro so i can dish out some damage too?

Any help is appreciated :)

Go for harder mobs and more of them, use pets and have fun. If you are doing the quests and getting rep and gold then ok np really and if all hell breaks lose you are there ready to cc, also a lock and a mage grinding are less likely to be ganked than if you were solo.

I am not sure about the drain life bit either tbh if you are out grinding with another and u want to pump out a bit of DPS use a bandage to get health back when out of combat not during with drain life.

Just don't use your DoTs. SB SB and more SB. Don't Life Tap, just drink when he does.

Ok thanks for positive comments,

Havent really thought about bandaging , heh gonna try that :)

Another question:

is destruction PvP viable? because with all those resilience whores out there it isnt going to do that much isnt it?

Edit: Rated you both up

PVP has 2 parts Arena and BGs both use dif play styles and dif talents all depends what you want. Fun = play how you like and enjoy it, Serious = Spend hours working out the smallest details hours trolling sites like this and hours changing spec to be better, to basically find that there is always some one better or if I had just done that etc.

I say Fun it is a game to enjoy

Funny, I am doing the exact same thing. All through the 30s and 40s I was pretty irritated cause I was doing next to no damage. When we started running more instances, I ******* at him that if he spread his damage around a little more and let my DoTs tick some, we'd BOTH be doing more damage with less down time. We are both 64 now, and he has learned to back off a little.

It's much nicer not having to wait for him to drink after every other fight!

I don't see why ya'll are grinding this way actually...

I leveled up with an Ice Mage and he only did 2 frost bolts per monster. I did Corruption Agony and UA/Immo (depending on the level obviously)... monster died and we kept a steady flow.

Fire mage is very powerful but mage mana is harder to come by than Lock mana... especially for Affliction. If he gets that much thrill outa out-dpsing you that bad then let him go for it... but I garentee you can even out damage by fighting through when he drinks (which if he's doing that much damage he's drinking ever 3-4 monsters.)

Affliction Lock grind post-40 is litterally a non-stop ordeal often with 2-3 monsters engaged (4-6 in certain spots.) And VW is trash here... both of you will pull agro off him unless he's Improved which I wouldn't waste the points on anyways... Use Imp with Phase Shift and Dark Pact him to keep your mana flowing.

Bandaid is great if you're fighting Humanoids that replenish stock, but theres no reason not to LT on the move in between enemies and throw on a Siphon Life and Life Drain every 2 or 3 monsters -- especially if taking on multiples.

While it's possible to grind hardcore like that, on a high pop PvP server, it's a terrible idea.

If you don't keep yourself ready to face a player foe (or two, usually) at all times, you are setting yourself up for many corpse runs.

But yeah, once he lost the itch to out DPS me at all times, things have gone much more smoothly.

I know that destro is not the preferred spec for a number of reasons. It's inefficient as hell on mana, but it is able to pump out some decent damage. Combine this with Imp. Scorch from a fire mage and I think you have some real potential for mayhem. Both of you could blast away at the mob and then drink up together. Granted most stuff doesn't live long enough for 5 stacks of Imp. Scorch. Does anyone know if Imp. Scorch stacks with CoE? Could be interesting if it does.

It would definitely increase the OP's damage if the mage doesn't want to back off a little.
