Tanking HeriocsFollow

#1 Dec 19 2007 at 3:00 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,
Well im 69, and hopefully going to be 70 by the end of the week. And I have 3 other guys one at 68, BM hunter and 2 70 paladins, 1 holy 1 ret. And me prot warrior. We're probably going to get a random mage for the 5 party member and for CC. Although im not quite sure what I need to be able to tank heriocs. Atm the armory is done for me and I cant access it. Although I can state a few stats.

10214 hp unbuffed
10.3~ armory
10% parry
14% dodge
13% block
430~ defense

Can anyone tell me what I need to be able to tank maybe hfc/coilfang heriocs?

Thanks for any replies~

I would recommend not doing Heroics for a while. Run at least all of the 70's instances at least a few times for gear..etc. You've probably seen the many stories from Warriors here talking about how many times it took them to get the "Bold" shoulders for Shadowlabs, or the shield from Botanica.

Your healer is going to need a large mana pool and higher healing stats than they would need for a regular 70's instance. You're DPS is going to need some gear upgrades to be able to down the trash mobs on the way to the boss.

I ran Heroic Slave Pens a few nights ago for the Daily quest and the hardest part of the run were the mob pulls on the way to the boss. Some of those guys where hitting like a truck. Later in the instance quite a few of them are immune to CC.

IMO if you try to enter the Heroics right away your group of "new" 70's will just be wasting their time. Time better spent in regular runs getting gear to prepare for the Heroics.

These are what my stats look like by the way to give you an example of how hard they are.

unbuffed
~13k hp
~14k Armor
17% Dodge
18% Parry
18% Block
515 Def.

I agree with Scolariman - you really need to get some better gear for heroics. In particular, I'd work on getting your defense above 490 to make you uncrittable. Many of the mobs in heroic UB hit me for over 2K non-crits; you can imagine what those crits will hit for, and your healer is going to have to work overtime to keep you up.

Scolariman's stats sound right on. Mine are a little weaker; I'm at 493 defense and about 12K health unbuffed - so those might be good targets for you to consider. They serve me fairly well in just about every heroic I've tried (with a good healer :)

Cheers,
Jorge

Aha thanks for the information, since the guild is a bit disorganized ive tried to run shadowlabs without them, but with randoms that didnt know what my markings meant it was hard to scrape past the first boss, but nevertheless I got the shield
Im doing as you said and running the normal dungeons first before trying heriocs.

Thanks for this information it was really helpful

Congrats on getting the shield right away. I think it took me about 5 or 6 Slabs runs to get it.
#6REDACTED, Posted: Dec 25 2007 at 4:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 490 defence is a absolute must.

I ran up until I was just under exalted for that damned Shadowlabs shield. Grats on the good luck.

As they said before, look for the level 70 instance gear, then try heroics. The sticky on this forum has a FANTABULOUS resource for getting the best pre-kara gear.

I have less stats than that, like 12K hp, 13K armor, 504 defense, and I think Heroic Slave Pens is almost appallingly easy.

Also, don't go for Shoulders of the Bold or that shield from Bot. Go for Gladiator's Plate Shoulders and the Crest of the Shatari.
