There are some nice sets out there, get Atlas Loot and look for craft able sets, and drop sets.

Primal Bat
The Gladiator (NOT ARENA GEAR)

just use lvl 59 outlands greens of the bandit.
that will get you good enough to do good at pvp.

wow-loot is great, but only deals with Outlands instances & zones. The OP said he wouldn't be getting TBC for a month or so.

I'm no expert on high-end Azeroth gear, but from my LW, the Black Dragonscale set was my goal (well until I never got to BRD and thus, never got the recipes).

I wouldn't recommend using too many PvP points on armor at 60, when you do get TBC, Outlands greens will blow away anything you have and those points will be wasted. Save 'em for 70 (or maybe even 80).

I would think 59 would be a pretty empty bg zone, though. Folks blow through 58-59 so quickly, they rarely take time to PvP.

Outlands greens = Azerothian purples > Azerothian blues. Buy the greens off the AH, it's much easier and actually better. "Of the bandit" and "Of the hunt" will serve you well.
