ok now im in a pickle. ive gotten a lot of criticism for choosing a cat to level to 70 for arena instead of a boar. i love the way my cat tears clothies apart with and without using my IWIN button. but ive been told teh boars charge is more imprtant than the damage output the cats dishes out. help meh out here who do i listen to. pros and cons of each if possible.

thx

I don't play PvP at all, so take this as you will.

For PvP, survivability and burst damage are what matter the most, therefore, using a Boar to stop people in their tracks or a Windserpent for its Burst damage potential are the 2 most beneficial pets.

However, given what I've heard about arena and that they can last a while, the sustained DPS of Ravagers, Cats, Scorpids and Raptors can't be ignored either. It really does depend on what youre fighting though.

One more thing, BM = better sustained damage rather than burst, so I'd go with your cat simply because thats what your build compliments the most from.

Windserpent Lightning Breath and scorpids Scorpid Poison (or whatever it's called) have been nerfed.
Ravagers are the highest dps pets there are atm, closely followed by cats/bats/raptors (gore>claw by a small margin). The difference is nowhere near enough to make or break a fight, so stick with your cat if you like it.

Boar Charge is wicked though, and some swear by their piggys in the arena solely because of that.
Survivability is not an issue. I have yet to see my pet die in the arena. OK, slight exaggeration, but still.

Personally, I use a carrion bird. Mostly for sentimental reasons, but it also flaps in peoples faces and bugs the hell out of them, and it has a nice ap debuff.
But mostly because I'm too lazy to tame a ravager.

Oh by the way, I don't mean to come off like a prick, but remeber to Capitalize, punctuate. and use the Return key

. And not too much teh, meh etc. It keeps it readable, and most of all, it will keep you from getting flamed.

Edit:Punctuation :P

I am very limited in PvP, but I have ran some Arena. I just lack the gear to be good. I've used a couple different level 70 pets.

I have gone in with a few different pets(windserpent, boar, cat, owl) I've noticed a few things that are Arena relevant.

I've come to the conclusion that the best pets for Arena are those with Dash/Dive, Claw, Charge, Screech are the best arena pet abilities there.

Dash/Dive for obvious reasons, to get to the enemy faster.

Charge another obvious reason, same as dash and dive, but with the added stun.

Claw is another reason. It's a fast, fast, fast attack. Sick a pet on a caster, claw on auto and laugh as you see that casters cast bar repeatedly drop turning a 1.5 second cast into a 3 second cast.

Screech actually works pretty well in Arena for those pesky rogues and warriors.

I use my pet as a form of CC with the added bonus of DPS. If there is a caster, that is who my pet goes for, no questions about it. Like I said with claw. Watch a healer try to cast a lesser heal only to have it take 3 seconds instead of 1.5, it's amazing.

Charge is another amazing ability. It's a second Intimidate for me. It can work wonders as well.

As far as ravagers go, they top DPS in long fights. Gore beats out Bite over a period of time. Arenas are fast pased and quick, I doubt gore would be a factor.

I personally go with an owl. It has dive, claw, and screech, +7% damage modifier. Not as good as a cat when it comes to total DPS, but it comes with screech that reduces the AP of nearby enemies.

I would go with a Boar before the cat too, because of the charge, but that's just me.

Just to clarify, when I said survivability I meant the Hunter, not his pet.

By that I mean any pet that can help you stay alive longer, keep your opponent away from you or lower their AP is gonna be in the top ranks of PvP pets, along with the heavy DPS pets of course.

It depends on your team makeup. If you are on a drain team of any kind the best arena pet is a scorpid. Having scorpid poison on the target you are viper stinging gives a chance that the scorpid poison will be cleaned instead of viper which is always good.

If on the other hand you are on a team that goes in and tries to just blow things up as fast as possible without much control on mana draining going on just choose a high dps pet I guess.

In 2v2 I tend to use my scorpid and drain the healers mana. In 5v5 I use my ravager as I don't have to worry about my viper sting getting cleansed as much as in 2v2. Then again, my arena ratings suck so this is mostly based on what I have seen from the top hunters :D

I'm curious to hear from more boar users. I use a cat right now strictly for dps but I can imagine charge being very useful.

Owl is my favored pet too. Mainly because a big black owl named Shuriken goes good with a dark-haird broody blood elf, but also for the reasons you mentioned, and lastly flying pets, as mentioned above, are great destractions.

In BGs, it's fun to send your owl up a tower after someone. They don't see you yet, so they'll usually start attempting to deal with this big flappy thing, not noticing the skinny elf running up the stairs, much to their demise.
