as a mage you just dont beat a warlock, do matter how well you plan your sratergy.

As a mage, your job is to shoot down everything in your path. Prime example: Vurtne

If you want to own a warlock, roll a BM hunter or a rogue.

Hunter’s immune fear (I hate) + the constant beating of the pet just owns me.
Even if you roll marksmanship, you will have a good chance of winning.

Rogue's stunlock is pretty sweet (for the rogue). If all goes well, the locks health will be down before he can get a single dot off.

But warrior's, hmm, I remember owning them from low-mid levels.
But about 60 they get pretty good. In arena's it kinda scares me to see a warrior charging at me. Makes me click my "OH ****!" button just to cast dots and let my bro hammer away at him.

Druid's... hmm I'm not really sure. I don’t really recall fighting much druid's. So I can’t say much about that.

Mage's. well... long term fight we will win because of DoTs (you will die eventually) We don’t use much mana, if at any, so outlasting a lock, say with 11k hp and 9.5k mana, will be near impossible. But I do know that ice lance at umm 66? Will make it harder to drain life/mana. Even with 5 points in fel concentration the instant cast of the ice lance screws it up.

I am leveling a mage, setting up for pom/pyro kind of thing. I think it’s just awesome that mages can cast an instant death bomb. (I have been 1 shotted with it). I think that mages should be given a few more instant cast spells though. I know how it feels when all you have is one instant cast, and the lock is running around just dotting you up. What I do to mages is just pretty much DoT and run around. I’m working on controlling my fel pup's spell lock. The fel pups spell lock won’t go off more once in the fight. The cd is a bit long. (Not complaining)
If I were a mage trying to kill a lock I would try to silence them, (improved counterspell) as much as I can. I wouldn’t try sheeping the lock, unless the fight just started, and even then it would to be just to get a decent spell off. Sheeping doesn’t do much, the pet will do the damage for that time we are sheeped. And if we got the DoTs off before you sheeped us, well you’re pretty much screwed. Whenever you see that the lock has put CoT on you make sure you remove it before trying to cast another spell. the fact that the majority of the mages spells are casting and not instant will be a death wish when CoT is on you just slowing you down casting by 60%. In the time you get your quickest spell off with CoT on, if the lock is smart he will just re-DoT and make sure that the CoT is on you for a while, if for not the whole fight.

I’m not sure when it is, but the mage tree is changing, and ice block will be available at the trainer at level 30. so that being so, when you see the lock has dotted you up with all the possible DoTs,( least amount of DoTs a lock has will be 1 instant [the curse], and if he has time to cast immolate, [ highly doubt he will waste time with that, especially because you will have fire shield] will be 2 , and if he is specced affliction will be 5 with siphon life and instant corruption ) just ice block to remove them, and start blasting away with your quickest spells. I wouldn’t bother, (unless you have the time) casting your most damaging spell. Just quick hits, over and over, will eventually kill the lock.

You will know you have a better chance if the fel pup is out, and spell locks you before the fight really begins. This means that you won’t be silenced during the fight. If you can’t take the pet's annoying spell silence/purge/tainted blood frost nova it still, and focus on the lock.

When the lock is draining life/mana, spell interruptions sucks (for the lock)
He won’t get much out of you if he can’t keep it up. And if he just keeps casting it that’s pretty much just mana drain for the lock. It’s not working, and all that is happening is a few hp being taken, it’s not much if he can’t keep it going.

Make sure when you cast a silence spell, that you are not casting it n a worthless lock spell, (the fire spells)

When the lock is casting fear, spell interruption/silence will stop it. He won’t try to get another fear off even when the silence is up. Most likely he will re-DoT you and start the cycle again before he tries to cast another fear.

The higher level my mage will be I will learn more about the class.

Don’t say that locks are OP. They may be against a mage in some, (most) situations but against a BM/Marks hunter, a stunlock rogue, a higher level warrior, a resto druid,( what class can outlast that?)Or a higher level shammy, you will see that it will take more than skill to beat them.

If you are really trying to make a class just to beat a lock, try one of the classes I talked about.

Not only will you be able to own locks, but the classes are a lot of fun.

The locks "free" mount at 60... Well that is just a pain in the *** to get and pay for. The 40 mount is nice though.
But 90g at 40 shouldn’t be hard to obtain.

Hmm, so if I forgot anything in this I will add it later if I find that it will be helpful.

There are two key talents you need when fighting a lock. Magic Attunement and Improved Counterspell. Before you engage, make sure you have Dampen Magic up. This will cut his dots in half. Then, cast Counterspell. Frost Nova, get behind him, and start nuking. The Water Elemental might be useful for a distraction and/or another Frost Nova. You get feared, either use Ice Block OR (Undead Mages only) WOTF. If he has the fel hunter out and it's not arena, well...you get 100% mana and health back shortly after the fight (do the math here).

One on one, they are a ***** and a half. That's why I suggest some guerella tactics. Make sure he's not targeting you if it's a group fight, and then just take him out.

Playing a mage made me better with spell lock. Treat it exactly like counterspell. Make a simple macro

#showtooltip
/cast Spell Lock

And bind that to the same key you use CS with on your mage.

It's very hard to run away if you're grabbing your ankles.

Or, so I'd assume. Smiley: tongue

Assume my ***, you run like a little ***** when the man with the dog comes down the road just like the rest of us.

Unless I can tell from the initial glance that my gear FAR outshines his, and I am talking greens vs season 3 here, even then it sometimes goes wrong.

Wow that made me laugh pretty hard
