Pet Names(no not another "What'd you name YOUR pet?" thread)Follow

I have two pets on my newest hunter that I spent a LOT of time getting.

At level 10, I gained some bout of insanity and made the trek on foot, as a draenei without a trailblazer, to the Blood Elf starting area. There I tamed my very red (and cool) cat. The endeavor took about 2 hours total (and about 30-40-odd deaths). My issue now is that I can't think of (and stick to) a cool name for my cat. :( Here's a picture.

Also, I just managed to tame a rare white wind serpent this morning before maint. It's Hayoc from Dustwallow. I'd really like a nice name for it as well because, from prior experience trying to find him on my troll, he can be Very hard to track down. I checked for and even camped his spawn area at times for 3 days on Caed. I was lucky and managed to get him on my first real attempt on Valyana (I saw him while I was trying to spam Valy to 39 to get him, but he was gone when I leveled and ran back to check).

So yeah... Any (non-silly) name suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you're Alli on Korgath I'll even send you some goldz if I use your name suggestion.

I often like mythological names for my pets... Unless something fittingly amusing can be found (like my Warp Chaser being called Hyperdrive).

I always liked the name Quatzecoatl for Wind Serpents - naming him after the great feathered serpent god of the Aztecs.

I see what you did thar. ;b It does make a nice name, but I'm kinda thinking of something a bit less 'epic' (Endeavor sounds really epic to me for some reason). I keep thinking Axel... but I don't know if it's cause I like the name or if it's because I was absolutely obsessed with Axel in KH2 X_x. Same with Reno (FF7 lul). Both of those characters had really red/spikey hair <_<. I'll consider that one though Aeth thanks.

Think I settled on a name for my wind serp - Celeste. Quez is kinda cool, I nearly named my very first wind serpent that (when I tamed an orange one from WC on my troll). It just has too many syllables though XD. I ended up naming that orange one "Mango" Rofl. Could name the white one Coconut >_>;;; mmm coconut... Thanks Sword for the suggestion. ^^

I know the cat is a little more red than he appears in your link. But he looks really orange there and the first thing that popped into my head was "Cheeto" :-)

But I go for some diverse names. My crab is called Scuttlebutt and then my black wolf is called Fenrir (from Norse mythology)

To be honest, if I can't think up a name for pets, I just ask a random person on the server (usually a healer so when they see it they will be like, he's cool, imma keep him alive).

Anyhow..

The pet names i've have/had..

cat = Zero. He's the rare spawn cat from wintersprings. The name works pretty well.

boar = Blue bacon. he's the RFD blue armored pig.

Wolf (misplaced ; ;) = ManInsideMe. I kno you didn't want any silly names but yeah that's what I named it

Windserpent = JakeLong. Had the healer name that one.

I just wait for something to hit me most of the time and they stick.

I chose the red kitty for my BE hunter. Most hunters seem to take the slightly higher level brown kitty so he’s somewhat rare even on the horde side. I named my kitty after a fire elemental from a book I liked.

Sunspark

I’ve not tried naming a white snake, but I did like the name I saw on a while wolf enough to “borrow” it for a white wolf on one of my hunter bank alts.

Frostbite

I think I mentioned in another naming thread that I tend to go for cute names as they make me laugh. On my current hunter I have the bright yellow boar skin (Princess/battle boar) that I named Sunshine. I got the white lion from the barrens quest and named him Nimbus (I wanted Snowball, but it said that was an invalid name :().

I usually refer to the red and yellow lynx as the ketchup and mustard skin, so knowing me I would name it something like "Hotdog" XD. Possibly "Maple". For the wind serpent I would probably go with another cloud name or another kind of weather effect. Like "Stratus", or "Chinook" (like the wind).

Whenever I tame a new pet, I just run with it being unamed until something pops into my head, thus the purple Tallstrider I had, for some reason got named PurpleBunny. I End up with wierd names, but again, its pretty much the first random thing that pops into my head.

Trying to come up with a new name for any of my toons.... now thats hard...

Personally, I am fond of picking up pets that are already named. Humar, Sian'rotam, Shy'rotam, Deathskitter and so on. And why should I take away their names? I mean, they have earned them. Each and every one of them has a certain amount of notoriety, and fame or infamy attached to them.

Humar now stalks beside me, a good deal more powerful than he was when I first met him, but still the same cat that was named the Pridelord by the rest of the denizens of the Barrens. I spent nine hours watching that pride, waiting for him to make an appearance, and when I finally had him at my side I couldn't make myself take away what he had left of his previous life.

So, Humar it was then, and Humar it is now.

The exception would be the Ravager I tamed, since I didn't find any named ones on my cursory inspection of Petopia. He got the name Switchblade since he would rarely be used outside of raids. He is still in my stables, unused.

Its Quetzalcoatl, so sad you always like the name but always had it wrong.

And as far as name goes, the most simple names are the ones that I like the most, and apparently the most people like, i.e "Freddy" "Phillip" etc.

When I was pretty low level, I made my way to get an owl from the night elf starting area. I'm a blood elf. That took lots of deaths :P I doubt you could do it now that there are NPCs on the ships, but at the time, I died twice on the docks moving my corpse close, then ressed on the ship when it arrived, charged up and died before the portal, ressed and went in the portal, then died and spirit healer ressed in teldrassil outside darnassus. After I finally got my owl, I went and chilled in the night elf starting area and waved at newbies for a while :P I was around level 20. If it wasn't for doing this I would have had to wait til around 50 for an owl pet :( I've had owls ever since. My original was named Shrike. Now I have a black one named Shuriken.

As for names for a cat, I'd say figure out the personality of your character first. The draenie always remind me of Olympian gods for some reason, so I'd theme it after something from that. It may take a while to get through, but http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/europe/greek/articles.html always helps me out.

Artemis was a hunter in greek mythology, you could name the pet 'Callisto' who was one of Artemis' nymph consorts(who she later punished for getting it on with her dad). Kithaironian is a lion that was killed to consecrate a temple to Artemis.

I named a windserpent that once before. Even when I spelled it right, it got kinda old fast. Maybe it's just because I usually give my pets German names.

I tamed Hayoc a long time ago, too. I named him Blitz, which is german for Lightning. I thought that it fit, since wind serpents have the lightning attack. Sadly, I had to let him go the other day, so I could learn Bite 9 for my ravager, Molly (not a german name, but it was a joke. I just fell in love with the color changing bug, and the name just kinda fits.)

Maybe once 2.3.2 comes, I'll get the highest level lightning breath and dive, then go out and track down the white wind serpent in Feralas. I miss Blitz
