Ok, well I need some input on to which profession (and gear) I should go with.

Currently I am at 365 enchanting, and am pretty content on keeping enchanting..because I have a few rare enchants, put a lot of money into it, and LOVE being able to disenchant.

I dropped blacksmithing which was at about 275, a month or so back, and picked up engineering. I got it to 350 in just one or two days, and built myself those amazing tanking goggles, that I had been looking at for a while (getting no benefit from blacksmithing at the time being prot). I still am wearing the tank goggles, and dont think I would even replace them for the t4 helm, although I might go with the heroic badge helm, after I get my 75 badge pants (possibly skipping these, for the ones from kara with +dodge) and 60 badge belt.

Tonight, in SSC, on my guilds first time in there (Yay! for us downing Lurker) I was the only prot pally in the raid, and got http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=30323;source=live (the pattern for Boots of the Protector) ...and I am now debating dropping one of my tradeskills to level up blacksmithing to wear to boots, as my current are blue (but have +dodge instead of shield block)

I don't want to give up engineering, until I replace the tank goggles, which I dont see happening any time too soon, unless someone thinks of something that I am forgetting about...and I really really dont want to give up my enchanting...but would also like the huge stam upgrade, int upgrade, and defense upgrade in the blacksmithing boots.

(As a side note, If I got blacksmithing I would also be able to make the belt, later on, if I ever get that drop :P)

So my question is, should I wait till I replace the tankatronic goggles to pick up blacksmithing...or should I drop something now....or forget about getting blacksmithing all together (as the belt is BoE)

P.S. One other question, is do prot pallies usually tank the add that is first killed when Lurker submerges? It was kinda hard for me with <300 spell damage to burst the aggro on him, when he became attackable, because everybody else in the raid was spam clicking to attack him (him being the one that guild leader wanted killed first).

I tried spam clicking taunt, but either it went off before he aggro'd someone, and was wasted, or seemed to not work, right as he was aggro'ing someone. I had consecretion down, and tried judging righteousness right when he became attackable, along with avenger's shield, then judgement, another time because I didnt have enough aggro solely judging righteousness. This possibly could have been the dps's fault for not making sure I got a hit on the target first, before they spam clicked, but I've really never had problems in aggro, maintanking before...(and never used a # of seconds to wait before attacking rule)

My thought was have me tank one, that would die second or third, so I could build a bit of aggro (via. getting hit and creating aggro from holy shield, bless. of sanctuary, and regular tactics)...and have a bear or warrior tank the one to be first killed, because they have greater burst aggro (at least instant cast)

One last thing, I have a bit better dodge(about 3 % higher) but not parry (about 3% lower) than one of our warrior tanks, along with almost 1k more health...was there a reason I was fourth tank on trash?...and used only if we didn't have or want cc for that mob?..(It was always melee, and not a caster, by the way)

Thanks in advance for any replies, suggestions, and sorry for making it a longer post than I expected :P

I want to first gratz you on killing Lurker :D With my current guild our participation has been dwindling severely so I don't think we'll ever make it there :(

On to the topic: I bought those plans for about 620g a while back, and am still wearing the boots. I wish they were BoE so I could make them for people, but meh, it was still very much worth it. I don't see myself replacing those boots any time soon, and with my guild, probably not till some greens drop in the next expansion. There's certainly nothing better that you can get in Tier 5 instances, ZA, or from Badge reward.

Now, whether you want to drop a profession to build blacksmithing back up just for that one (potentially 2 later) piece of gear, I can't say. There's a very nice helm you can get from ZA, though I haven't compared it to the goggles, but I'm sure it's just as good if not better, so my guess is the goggles won't last you as long as the boots.

Probably what I would do is wait until you get something to use in place of the goggles, then drop engineering for smithing to get the boots. Well, if I had the money to do so that's what I would do :)

<skipping the question about Lurker as I've never seen the fight>

About being 4th, I think that's pretty much standard with guilds that have a Prot Paly: they get put last in line to tank, and in my case, we bring enough Warriors to fill tank roles and I get brought to backup heal o.O Even with more health and equivalent avoidance, we still take more damage than a Warrior and are harder to heal. Most people will still try to use a Prot Paly as little as possible even though we are indeed viable tanks. It's just Warriors are (most of the time) better suited, though we can do the job.
