Gear for raiding guilds...Follow

#1 Dec 16 2007 at 6:24 PM Rating: Good
'scuse the crappy subject I didn't know what else to call it...

...here's my issue:

My realm is a relatively new one (post TBC) and although we have a fairly good population alot of the guilds are still building up to kara, with a few beyond.

Now I've levelled my paladin and am just getting a good feel for my priest who will be hitting 70 this week. The problem I have is finding a guild who will take me into the areas of the game I want to go. I don't (yet) have the epics I need to get into the better guilds (even if they did exist on my server) so my questions are as follows-

1) What gear should I be looking out for and what instances should I be running to get said gear given that at the moment I'm gonna be running with pugs. You know a couple of pieces here might impress a guild I want to join.
2) Should I instead keep attempting to find a guild who I can grow with, as it were, in the hope we might get there - as it happens I have been in a couple of guilds on this server and they either didn't have the direction and/or the leadership or they were just something way to casual.
3) Should I instead switch realms.

I don't particularly want to start my own guild, I don't yet have the all encompassing game experience I'd want of any GM who was leading a guild I was a memeber of. But if you were/are a guild master what one or two pieces of gear would make you say "Wow, nice holy priest we gotta have him in our guild"?

Yes I realise I could do some research on my own, which I have done, but apart from pipedreams on the tier 5/6 stuff I do like some of the posters in this forum :p

Take tailoring and get your Primal Mooncloth set made. Get the two pieces of the Whitemend set made. Those will last you til Tier 5 at least. Other than that, I'm sure there is a list of pre-Kara holy gear out there on the O-boards if you look. I don't know holy gear really as I am shadow, but tailoring is definitely the way to go.

Possibly THE best loot list out there.

My comments assume you are disc/holy.

If you haven't done so already learn to make money (tradeskills forum).

I agree with the above. I got my start with tailoring.
Primal Mooncloth Set - 3 pieces, make yourself
Whitemend Hood and Pants (If you don't get a recipe drop, get with "my mats, your nether")- 2 pieces

Optional:
A nice healing mace like one from pvp, or the The Ancient Scepter of Sue-Min from the AH (expect this to be replaced with healing mace from maiden of virtue in kara). Add the +81 healing enchant.

That's several very nice epics. That will up your +healing, and should be a great start.

Once you start kara, you can expect to get nice healing gloves off the first boss, and eventually that mace off Maiden as a start.

You will also start to collect the Badges of Justice. Check out the upgrades you can get from these for your off-hand, wand, etc.

Also check rep rewards for a possible upgrades.

Use the armory to target where you plan to get upgrades from.

If you have to drop a profession to take up tailoring, try to move it over to an alt if it is making you money. I moved herbalism and mining to my hunter, so that I could keep alchemy and tailoring on my priest who is my main.

Option 2 - pvp, a lot of it.
Option 3 - Heroics, a lot of them.

Ok thanks for this, I am indeed disc/holy (21/40) atm spec does need a rethink still thinking about CoH and need to remove some of the pure levelling talents I have... that however is irrelevant for this discussion :p

Umm I currently have Herbalism and Alchemy on my priest, I don't on the whole use Herbalism to make money but my Alchemy is 361 and getting there so if I was going to drop one for tailoring I'd drop the herbalism (?) My Paladin has blacksmithing and mining and I've been kind of unhappy with both of those so could restart on there, also have a couple of low level alts I guess I could play with.

Money's not the issue really Alchemy got me my epic mount and has got me more than enough already for my normal flying mount, the flasks help :) what I would like to know is if there any pieces you are suggesting which only a tailor of high skill could use (you know like the equivalent of the alchemy trinket) or BoP or could I just buy the gear from a friendly tailor instead?

I'd been checking out Khalane's shadow priest gear list to see if there was anythng I could pick out of there as a stopgap but thanks for the help so far :)

EDIT: Scrap that last question I alrady knew the answer to it best start looking for some cloth then :D Thanks to you both .. rate ups!

Yes, the primal mooncloth set is BOP, so you have to make them yourself.

I topped off my outfit with some really nice [wowitem=30035]Boots of the Long Road[/wowitem]. The boots are BOP, but the tailoring pattern is BOE from one of the 25 man raid instances. It's more rare than other epic tailoring patterns, so you may need to watch the AH for weeks to snag it.

Oh in answer to your other two options I can't for my life pvp on my holy priest, I'm really bad, they're just not built for it, it would take someone with way more patience that I have to do that on my priest.

I already resigned myself to doing lots of pug heroics anyways, so this will be fun :p Hopefully with some work on tailoring and a few other pieces I can limit this, but I might just run into a decent guild along the way doing heroics so we shall see.

Just did a quick search for Boots of the Long Road on my server... Pattern was 1650g buy out, as it's going to be a week or two before I can get my tailoring upto level though think I'll wait.

Whitemend + Primal Mooncloth

Back - The PvP badges one is barely worse than the one from Prince in Kara, until you get that one Sethekk Halls
Wrist - Badges
Hands - Badges, until then the ones from Botanica
Feet - Boots of the Long Road, if you can afford/find them, are very good; if not, heroic Mech (raw +heal) or the ones from Shattered Halls (tons of regen).
Rings - Mechanar, revered Thallmar/HH, BM quest ring, and the PvP rings are all good
Trinket - BM, Heroic Mana-Tombs, Revered Lower City
Weapon - The arena one is best, but the one from Heroic Shadow Labs is very good, until then the one from Mech is very good
Offhand - Either badges one work, the Netherwing one from the quest in Netherwing Fields in SMV, and pretty much any other one work :P
Wands - Slabs one or the Rejuvenating Wand from the Archmage chain in Netherstorm

Can't agree more. If a priest doesn't have these asap they are just slacking imo.
