Well, as you can see, my mage is nearing 70, and currently has only 1 set of armor (not very good armor, mind you, mainly quest rewards.) And was wondering if I should start working on a PvP set and a PvE set for when I hit 70. I know that when I finally hit 70, I'll get some of the stuff on that "Easy, soloable gear for the fresh 70 mage" but I'm not sure if that stuff will cut it... Could I get a hand here? What would you do?

Oh, and when I do hit 70, and get some decent gear, what instances should I be doing? O_o; I really need to know these things... If it helps, I'll be focusing more on PvP then PvE for now.

Well if you plan on focusing more on PvP than PvE start doing some BGs and get some honor saved up to buy the Season1 Arena Gear.

If you do plan on raiding then I would suggest leveling tailoring to make the spellfire set (if you want the most damage) or if you want to do it casually with a guild that doesn't require the best damage spec you can do the frozen shadoweave set.

Once you hit 70 start running sha'tar instances and get revered with them to get the head inscription, coilfang is nice for a good +hit ring with I believe 21 stam on it (maybe more) at exalted. IF you don't have good luck getting raid drops you could work towards getting one of the caster swords from either thrallmar or caverns of time.

So a quick answer: you could probably start running all of them. Also, remember to start saving some badges when you get geared enough to run heroic dungeons.

I would suggest you get the addon Atlas Loot. Then you can easily peruse what instances drop gears that you would like to add to your set.

If your mainly interested in PVP, get the s1 gear for sure. Nowadays you wont get on a decent arena team with less than 300 resil. Some want mages with 400+.
(at least on my server)

For Raiding:
The spellstrike set, the nimbleness set (spell haste) and heroic spell haste equips are pretty good, tho you do have to fill in some with +spl hit gears.

If you're into pvp, just get a pvp set (all honor gear except one or two pieces you could replace with s3 quick), and then work on a pve set.
You can raid in a pvp set, kara at least, you can't pvp in a raid set properly.
Or you could just get the s1 weapon, vindicator's silks and tailor the rest, whichever floats your boat, I do both depending on if I feel like speccing fire.
