I like a lot of these ideas to some extent. I agree on the HoT or AoE heal being a bad idea if you get down to the core of healing distinction between classes. IE; the arguable order of best group to single-target healing is Drood, Priest, Shammy, Pally. The idea of consecrate having a healing ability is nice, but if Blizz is wanting to keep healers specific on their rolls like they always have been, this is probably not going to be implemented.

I personally would enjoy(though this might seem idiotic to some) a talent at the bottom of the Prot tree called "Inner Demons" or "Skeletons in the Closet" or something to that effect(yes, another lorelol). An ability with no CD and no mana cost. When cast, 4-6 Demons or Skeletons are spawned and attack you with a very fast attack speed. These guys have maybe 1k HP, but only hit for maybe 50 per strike. The point of it being where you're getting low on mana this will get reckoning to proc almost repeatedly. Not the most brilliant of ideas, and not that great for raiding but meh, it's Monday and I have yet to taste coffee this morning.

Either that or another taunt... Again, not needed in a raiding sense, but people pulling aggro can be a constant problem while trying to replace all your greens.

That's all I got..

Ok I think I kinda understand where you are coming from with the skeleton thing, but summoning mobs to attack you for the sole purpose of proccing a talent that nobody uses anymore (and consuming HS charges) seems a bit.... off.

We also don't need another taunt. Learn to manage your aggro with only the one, and you should do fine. Pre-TBC Paladin tanks had 0 taunts, yet we still managed.

one thing I would like to see pallies get would be track demons, it seems to fit with the class, as pallies are demon and undead killers.

I don't defend my idea in the least. =P

But I do understand what you mean, and as I said neither are raid viable. And the other not viable in most scenarios. But the extra taunt(or even a shorter cooldown on the one we have) would help people in the scenario I was in. Level as Ret, then prot, then Ret, then Prot, then Ret, then at 70 respec Prot to start tanking for good and having pretty crap-tastic gear. Obviously there shouldn't be a talent to help people out who didn't save gear, but ideas were asked for.

Retardin, over and out.. /salute

As a side note, I didn't know pallies didn't get a taunt until TBC! That's nuts.

All I want is a ranged, single-target ability to pull. Since I can guess that, though, I'm guessing we won't get it. :(

We didn't have a taunt, heals did not return mana, no AS, no AD, no Imp. HS. Reckoning only procced on crits, and dealt an extra attack per crit, I think redoubt was similar. It was tough but we still did it, I tanked scholo a couple times, and Strat a lot, DM a couple times too but strat was where I was mostly at.

o_O

Umm.. Ouch.

No further statements at this time, thank you..

For a further statement, I'd like to say that though I've only played a Pally for a year, I've enjoyed this class more than any. We seem very... solid? I'm looking for a better word, but I suppose un-broken will work. I don't expect much for us in the expansion because of it though. To shove my foot in my mouth, I haven't seen much of the healing side of Paladins first-hand, but I don't hear many complaints from people I group with/know. Each tree has its roll, and all 3 fill their roll pretty damn well. I've even seen a good Ret Pally before... Just one so far.. but that day was magical! =D

I pretty much concur. I'd like to see a little more usefullness for Ret in PvP, but that's about it. I'm fine with them not being viable in raids, we got 2 other trees which can do that. PvP though is where I think they should shine a bit more than they currently do.

I agree. The Ret changes were a good start, but they still need a little more of a push. Though maybe they're fine, idk. I don't arena, all my knowledge is in tanking. But from what I'm told they're still needing a little extra kick.

BAM!!!

Yea, Redoubt was the same, proccing on crits (der, Defense reduces crits, damn stupid-old-Prot tree ...). Oh, and remember Seal/Judgement of Fury?

Did no-one on this forum play a paladin before you could be a Blood Elf?

>.<

Paladins used to be vastly different. They filled the same function, but you had to do it differently. I leveled my first paladin as Retribution back when my sole deciding factor on class choice was how cool I looked swinging my mace. Y'know, when I was like, 14.

Anyway, I'm in the camp that thinks Ret needs some serious work. Even if it's a luck-based burst damage system, they need to be able to actually do stuff. Part of it is that they have a horrible reputation, and part of it is that they actually are pretty bad.

I've seen one good Ret paladin. And he was healing at the time.

Rofl that made my day =D

I'd like to see some instant cast spammable heals on pallies. That would be uber, if only for pvp. and some kind of cone damage spell, much like mage's icy cone thingymabob (forgot what it was called... cone of cold was it?). That would be cool. I can imagine a pally battling hundreds of enemies with his friends, throwing out instant heals and blasting scores of undead from in front of him.

funky. I would however, like to see a buff for holy shock more than anything else. It would make the shockadin spec good for pvp again... Decrease cooldown to 12 seconds, make it interrupt spellcasting, and up it's spelldam coefficient a little. That would just own. I never found it fair that a shammy can deal good damage and interrupt spellcasting every 6 seconds. Plus they can still heal as needed. Buffing holy shock would be fantastic, and would finally make it a really game changing deep tree talent.

But oh well, what can i say. I am of the camp that believes blizzard doesn't like us pallies =(

i didnt even buy WoW untill you could play as a blood elf. . .

all the charactor models looked absolutely stupid to me untill BE. first off all my friends are horde so allies are out of the question (not that any of them look good anyway). orcs are hunched over and look all kinds of homeless. undead are also hunched over and run silly. i dont have to say much about Tauran's model, giant blob of furry stupid scratching its self. trolls look like jamacan punk rockers, with tribal feather stuffs, not my style.

BE have the "Im better then you" look down pat. they at least stand with some kind of pride. and look like they are Closet Evil.

Well, if you were intent on playing a Horde paladin, I guess Blood Elves would literally be your only choice there.

Which begs the question of why everyone wants to be a Horde paladin nowadays.

Orcs hunch, but it works out because they're taller than anything that isn't a Tauren or a tentacle-faced space devil. And they're buff. Super buff. If you want a race to look homeless in, roll Forsaken. Nothing says I-can't-pay-for-food more than having your elbow bones sticking out of your clothing.
#41 Dec 18 2007 at 5:16 PM Rating: Excellent
I had a human pre-TBC, my friends all played horde so I was finally able to play with them once the expansion came out (I really couldn't stand any other class for too long).

I remember, I only used it a few times before they patched it out, but I remember all to well.

Basically you want to rig paladins to the point of uber-OP right?

Seriously, lol.

Doesnt really merit a response, but try to keep trollposts down to a minimum please.

My suggestions (which I admittedly didnt say absolutely explicitly) were intended to be 51pt talents for each tree, not baseline abilities for every Paladin. Any 51pt talent would have to be very powerful to earn that much specialisation, and by that token I think my suggestions were relatively modest.

As for new baseline abilities, there are very few new mechanics left open in the game, so I'd imagine we would get a new token buff aura and pretty much nothing else springs to mind. Apart from perhaps summoning some form of construct or pet (Holyfiend? :P) to assist in an indirect way, I cant really think of much else we could be given :)

i'm not thinking of these as spells, but more as talent tree abilities

holy
-----

Divine Heal- instantly heal all party/raid members equal to your highest holy light spells, cool down 90 minutes, players int and spirit are reduced by 30% while Divine heal is on cool down.

prot
----

Divine howl - taunts ALL monsters currently ingaged in combat with party/raid. (some wording to imply it will even break all CC and taunt the formerly cc'd mobs also)

ret
----
divine prowess - paladins str and agi is increased twofold for the next 4 hits or 10 seconds garunteed critical hits. cool down 30 minutes, paladins str/agi reduced by 30% while Divine prowess is on cool down.

another prot idea

spell relect aura (0/5)
-----------------
aura cover all party memebers within 30 yards of paladin. has an x% chance to reflect spells cast upon party members back at the caster.

5 point ability, 2/4/6/8/10

i also like that healing consencrate idea.

how about a mass rez spell with a 60 minute cool down, requires a BOUGHT regent, that ya then have to a miniquest on, kinda like take a symbol of kings to the uthers tomb and pray to purify it, crating a "purified symbol of kings" unique(1), or, better yet, take symbol to uthers tomb, and sacrifice a green or better plate armor item, while praying to create "purified symbol"

I like Hardnote´s mass-ress spell. Not to mention the fact that it would be completely viable with other warcraft games (Warcraft 3 & Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne) but all the other healers will probably start yelling "OP!".

So I went back to the manual, which didn't do much good since it is pretty out dated by now (Redemption resses you with full health and mana... huh? WTF, healing aura?) so instead I went to several topics and read some posts (blue and otherwise).

Words that seems to pop up -often- with pallies are the following;
- Sacrifice
- Undead
- Holy
- Rightious

So I started working with these, and I came up with the following;

Holy: Touch of Sacrifice
Removes all buffs from you and heals your target for X damage per buff.

Protection: Final Stand
Decreases movement speed by 70% for 30 seconds, increasing agro done by you by 25% for 30 seconds and increasing armor by 10% for 30 seconds. This effect triggers forbarence (to tired to look up how it's spelled).

Retribution: Rightious Crusader
Increases you size by 20%, all damage dealt by 5%, agility and strength by 10% for 30 seconds. This effect triggers forbarence.

And a little anti-undead spell... seeing how WotLK will bring in an entire continent filled with the scum.

Holy: Holy Fire Aura
Deals x amount of damage every 3 seconds to all undead in a 20 yard radius around the paladin. Will also burn x amount of mana from the paladin for each x amount of damage done.

Just my 5 cents. In my opinion, not all that OP, since you ca play with CD's, damage and mana costs.

EDIT: On another note, I think that giving pallies an Arcana resistance aura wouldn't be the best idea. Oh sure, it would be awesome, but lore wise (yes I know Blizzard screwed over lore before) I think it would be better if mages would get it. Not an aura offcourse, but maybe a third option next to Amplify Magic and Dampen Magic.. Resist Magic [Increases Arcana Resistance by X amount]maybe?

@Hardnotes - I would never use any of those spells as any of those specs. There's just too much punishment for too little benefit. Spell reflect aura is also insanely powerful. Anyway, here's some of my talent suggestions:

Holy
----------

Cleansing Power (0/3) 46 point talent
Your Cleanse spell now has a (33/67/100%) chance to remove a curse effect in addition to it's normal effect.

Divine Swiftness (0/1) 51 point talent
Instant 10 minute cooldown
-When activated this ability immediately refreshes the cooldown on your Divine
Favor, Divine Illumination, Divine Shield, and Blessing of Protection spells.

Prot
-----------
Improved Avenger's Shield (0/5) 41 point talent
Your Avenger's Shield spell now has a (20/40/60/80/100)% chance to not break crowd control spells.

Avatar of Protection (0/1) 51 point talent
10% of base Mana
Instant
The Paladin takes on an avatar form, reducing incoming damage by 10% and increases spell damage/healing by 50%. Healing spells may not be cast in this form.

Ret
-----------
Improved Blessing of Freedom (0/3) 41 point talent
While under the effect of Blessing of Freedom, the target's run speed is increased by 5/10/15% and has a 10/20/30% chance not to be dispelled.

Seal of Repentance (0/1) 46 point talent
Gives the Paladin's melee damaging strikes a chance to increase critical strike chance by 5% for 5 seconds, this effect can not stack.
Unleashing this Seal's energy will force the target to repent, increasing the duration of the target's cooldowns by 20% for 20 seconds. The Paladin's melee strikes will refresh the duration of this judgement.

Hammer of Fire (0/1) 51 point talent
1000 Mana
30 second cooldown
The paladin hurls his weapon doing 150% weapon damage and reducing the resilience rating of the target by 30% for 15 seconds, this effect can not stack.

I was just trying to think of things that would be nice to have but wouldn't be gamebreaking.
#48 Dec 20 2007 at 9:14 AM Rating: Decent
for Holy, i would like to see a talent to make consicrate heal

for Ret i would like to see a talent to make consicrate reduce damage taken or CC or threat of anyone who stands in it.

for prot i want to see more shield skills. Paladins have always been the sheild masters of any game. i want to see more of that in this game.

improved AV, increase the number of reflects, or Jacks idea is also really good.

sheild spin 51st talent, an instant aoe sheild throw ability, about the radius of consicrate, can interupt. next part is iffy but sound cool to me, consumes a holy shield charge per target to stun for 2 seconds. adds bonus threat of holy shield charges if holy shield is up.

so you lose holy shield most likely while tanking but helps with interupting casters or such. win some lose some, you still have consicrate so you dont have to use all the time to blow your holy shield.

it also adds alittle for the prot pally who like to defend key points in pvp. when its 5 vs you and you need to hold out just a bit longer for reinforcments.

i would also like to see a base block increase by about 10% for 5 talents.

this next idea i admit is from D2's paladin. another improved holy shield talent that increases the armor of your shield by 10/20/30% while your holy shield is in effect.

Edit: oh yeah, the idea i liked the most but some how almost forgot to post. due to paladins needing extra stats like SD to do the same job as a war, we kinda get screwed with itemization. not that there isnt any way around it, but i would like to see a talent where a % of our SD goes to a tanking stat of some kind. much like mages get % of int talent, priests get % of spirit, toward another stat they very much need.

that way we do not "have" to wear warrior armor and trick out our mage weapon as the only way to gear our pallies.

---

i also really like that -70% movement trade in for tanking power, but that sounds alot like the kind of powers that warriors always get in MMOs, normally called final stand or Hold the Line.

Either (1) an instacast heal or (2) a HoT.
#50 Dec 20 2007 at 10:36 AM Rating: Decent
what The RuenBahamut of Doom said, I like those ideas, they seem normal, and not to over the top. I don`t think pallies will ever get HoT`s, Or any kind of instant heal, doesn`t seem fair to the rest of the classes. If they could make the older bubble actually useable it would be nice, I`m not sure if the old one and the divine shield run the same CD or not. But its a thought.
