Ok, i know it has been posted or at least i am pretty sure of it, but i can't seem to be able to find the post. I am looking for the math or final verdict when SoR outdamages SoV (or not), both including or excluding the imp SoR talent (5/5). At what level of spelldamage does SoR or SoV outdamage the other, perhaps crit has a part in there too.

I am trying to justify either taking up imp. SoR in a build or wait untill a certain level of spelldamage has been reached or perhaps not even taking it, but my gutt feeling tells me that SoR with imp SoR should be outdamaging SoV at some point. Right now it seem that SoV is doing more (at +500 or so spelldamage/holy)...

Like all seals it depends on the situation. Also depends on whether you are tanking or not, in which case damage is less of an issue than threat.

In reality it should only be an issue if you are Holy/Prot lvl 64+ and PvE soloing. PvP you shouldn't be trying to do damage if you are holy, if you are Prot in PvP you better have a healing set or else you are useless and for Ret it always will be Socomm. PVE group takes Holy Pally out of the equation and and leaves Prot in which case it once again about threat not damage.

As it stands with +750 spelldamage I find that SoV is winning out, ticks for more and judges for more.

No one wants to do the math because it would look like this for Righteousness:

cond(eq(HND,1),0.85 * (2610.43 * MWS / 100) + 0.03 * (MW + mw) / 2 - 1, 1.2 * (2610.43 * MWS / 100) + 0.03 * (MW + mw) / 2 + 1)

Not fun at all, since SoR is affected by swing time and variable co-efficients.

One thing I have to strongly state is that Improved Seal of Righteousness is not worth putting points into. Once again if you are a Prot Pally and feel it is worth it rather than going down Ret then go for it but if you are anything else it is totally not worth it, not in a DPS perspective only for threat.

It's really not even worth it for prot, the tree is so bloated now and there are so many better talents on the ret side that you can't really find enough points to grab it even if you wanted to.

Plus, if you are alliance, you are going to use SoV to tank bosses anyway. If you are horde, you don't have an option anyway, and it's still not worth it to grab imp. SoR.

So final verdict: Just use SoV for longer fights, SoR for shorter fights.

I believe only the Judgement can crit so not going to make an insane amount of difference except on long long fights anyways.

But, as has been said, just skip it. SoV is much better for a tank with the DoT it places giving more or less a constant stream of threat, even when you miss hitting the target. For a Holy you won't be focusing on your damage but instead your ability to heal, excepting while solo, but still there are plenty of talents better suited for a Holy than Imp SoR. And if you were Ret you should be using SoCommand anyway.

I used to have said talent, but that was when I was a Ret/Holy tank way back before BC was released. Not looked back since my respec to Prot after they fixed the tree :)
