Ok so I switched specs to a 5/20/36 survival spec with expose weakness .. and I can't say how much I absolutely love the build in raiding. My agility is still a bit low (working on it), but the build still works and my raid leader gave me the thumbs up on it. (he was very pleasantly surprised since no other hunter in the guild had yet put the effort into the spec in order for us to see it's results.)

But of course expose weakness doesn't stack. I'd like to call dibs on being the guild survival hunter (or at least one of them).

I know a lot of guilds may want people to spec differently at different times, but since this isn't just a respec (gems, enchants needed to be changed around) do you think it's acceptable of me to ask my Class Leader for this role specifically? I am an active raider in the guild.

If you're willing to really put the money into it, and there aren't any other hunters in the guild that will commit to SV, then do it. SV is a hard spec to really get into, because it's not just a ZOMGUBERDPS PEW PEW! spec. Good SV hunters are REALLY good hunters.

You've asked a question of the forum which can only be answered in the context of your Guild. So, communicate. Tell your guild leader and/or Hunter class leader of the dedication you have put into being a SV spec Hunter, and that you'd appreciate that this dedication be taken into consideration when raid spots are being filled. After that, it should just be a matter of filling the role well and building your reputation.

Yes, definitely be stern about staying SV. Not only will you have the potential to do super dps (Once you get enough agi), but also you are like a 3rd trinket for all the physical dps in your group.

Sudgegestion, when raiding always ask to be in the feral druids group, leader of the pack is a great aid for SV hunters.

I will also agree that if you are willing to put the effort into survival, it is an awesome build.

The hard part is that, especially when starting out, your RL may look at your personal DPS and call it into question. Until you get geared enough, you won't really shine on the DPS meters. I know that when I first specced that way, the RL in my old guild kept yelling at me to spec BM.

I got lucky and fell into a guild that understood the benefit that survival brings and allowed me to gear up sufficiently to provide a good benefit to the group. It sounds like you've found yourself in a similar situation, and I'd say that if your RL gave you the go-ahead for the spec, there is no reason you shouldn't ask him if you can be THE survival hunter. =)

Good luck to you, and let us know how it goes!!!

Ok. I am the survival hunter of the guild. :D

Actually there is one new hunter (who is a former guildie of mine so not new to me at all) who is also choosing this spec to work on. And it's ours.

Doesn't seem that the other hunters, when seeing the investment needed, wanted to go this route. I've gotten my hunter up to or past the recommended kara stats suggestions in the forum stickie .. expose weakness procs again every time the buff wears off, so it's always up .. it's a beautiful thing.

For the most part, I'm within the top 3 dps of the raid, and either first or a very close second in damage done.

So basically, I lost nothing, and the raid gained expose weakness. Instance runs are actually better. Farming is still as easy. I don't pvp as much as I used to in the past so I can't really compare there.

I'm still working on my shot rotation. I find myself clipping shots and cussing myself about it. I'll find my niche again so I'm not too worried.

One thing I'm wondering about it my pet. I was using a ravager for dps, but recently got a wolf to 70 to see if furious howl would be of benefit. Tomorrow I'll raid with him and see if it's worth it. It's 60 focus though, so I'm not sure how often it will proc. I suppose I'll only have bite and furious howl active at any given time.

I do wish we had more higher level pets to choose from. I'd love to have a boar again.

Yes, I've been grouped with mostly melee dps, as well as our feral druid. It helps my crit rating nicely, and he loves me .. especially while in kitty form.

My SV Hunter pounded the everloving snot out of the MM Hunter in our raid group on Shade tonight in Kara. He asked me after the fight (second attempt, only got him to 40%...that bastid!) how I managed to reach (and sustain for some time) an average dps of 1200+. 41% crit, Hunter's Mark, Expose Weakness, Rage of the Unraveller proc'ing like nobody's business, Bladefist's Breadth + Rapid Fire, win. Win. Win. Win. If the other dps in the group had been pounding out 1200dps, we would have flattened Shade. Granted, I'm slightly overgeared for Kara, but it was nice to get a little recognition for the benefits that I brought to the group as an SV Hunter. I wound up topping the damage meter (including pet damage) for the run.

Fear SV. >:D

Actually it was the Shade fight that made me look at a SV build. My hunter's guild raid group was having some difficulities with him, and I was looking for ways to help the raid in general.

I'm still having reservations about this new wolf pet though. /fret
