I am currently a level 70 BM/MM hunter and I love it (15 in MM). However, now that I am running heroics and getting to kara, should I switch to more of a crowd-control build? One that is primarily SV and focuses on traps and such. However, I love BM and I don't know if I should respec. Please help!

I'd say 41/20/0, 0/43/18 or 0/21/40.
Or just check my sig.

Also know that it's not always just a case of changing your talents. To switch over to a playstyle which focuses on the SV tree may require you to change a lot of your gear before you can make the tree work for you. Because BM and SV hunters will focus on slightly different stats.

There's nothing wrong with BM. If you can make the spec work for you then that's great. There's a lot of info here on the hunter boards to help you with these questions.

heroics, your gear should be halve decent, but not needed to changed Spec...

a 41\20 BM/MM spec is fine for heroics, just place your trap early, and if it does resist's place another one, run to the other side the room if you can and wait...

A SV spec is VERY gear dependant and is quite a hard spec to work around...

But a BM spec shouldn't be to hard in heroic's!

I specced SV shortly after I dinged 70 and have loved it. There is no doubt that it is the best spec for % man heroics imo. The reason being that your CC is so much more reliable and easy as a survival hunter expecially with 2 pieces of Beast Lord armour. I havent played BM for ages and the insane DPS does appeal however I think as there are so many Hunters in most severs it is good to maintain your group utility with the cc and Expose Weakness buff for the whole group /raid. TBH trapping/cc is less of an issue in Kara and I assume beyond and if you are one of those players who needs to be at the top of the damage meter then SV probably isnt for you as its unlikely you will out dps a decent geared BM or even MM hunter.

If you do go SV you need to stack agility and that can get pricey in terms of gems etc but I think it would stand you in good shape should you ever wish to swap back to BM.

I'm BM and I chain trap heroics all the time. Being SV means more margin for errors be it resists or someone breaks CC. Just make sure you have 2 pieces of the Beastlord set for the trap CD reduction.

I was thinking about switching to MM/SV but to tell you the truth if you don't want to don't you just have to know how your spec works, pretty much on the trapping there is a way to get around the CD's. Place your traps down a little before your group pulls the mobs by then your CD should almost be up they pull you trap and then lay down another and so on and so forth. After about 4 traps is when I start cutting it close to my limit but by then they should be at my mob and I don't have to worry anymore, now I havent been into kara yet (almost ready) so I don't know how the pulls are but what I do has been working so far, pretty well I might add and I'm BM/MM.

I run BM and always will. There is little trouble cc'ing as a BM as long as your group waits for your CD to be up before the pull giving you a chance should the first trap resist. In 5-man's this helps. In heroics and raids in neccesary or everyone wipes. Place your ice trap before you sit down to replenish mana between pulls to reduce waiting time and don't be afraid to say wait.

I use a Trap friendly build. This does lose a little DPS and mana efficiency over the cookie cutter 41/20 BM build, but the improved CC is worth it to me.

If you can chain trap as BM I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the CC in Kara should be done by warlocks and priests really with the occasional poly. Maybe the horses on the way to attunmen and maybe an add on Moroes are all you'll really need to do as far as CC goes.

If you stay BM, pick up Mortal Shots, it is sexy.
