Affliction in PVPFollow

#1 Dec 14 2007 at 4:17 AM Rating: Decent
ok, so i know that most people will say the 7/43/11 or 24/37/0 are the best two pvp specs. Ive done both and am feeling the want to PVP in 42/7/11 or something close to that. Is deep affliction a viable PVP spec, or will i just be wasting my and my arena teams time?

i can see how they would not be up to par in a arena

Affliction Locks are more for BGs, imo. non of the spells have a travel animation or anything obnoxious. just hide in the crowd/bush/behind a tree and tab DoT the field. no one will/should realize that they've been Dot'd untill its too late, if at all.

Ok idk what those two are talking about but a UA build is amazing in both BG's and Arena. Yes an SL/SL build will give you more survivability which is important but if you have sufficient resillience and spell power, UA can easily stand up for the loss. You will be able to dish out much more damage and iHoT is amazing. UA is also a very helpful since it adds dps and prevents dispelling of your DoT's.

Also where did you hear a felguard spec was good for PvP?

First for dps in kara, top three for dps in bg, top five for hks (usually top two if I decide to be an honor-grabbing *****, instead of a team player).

So yes, deep affliction can be great for bg - depending on your play style.

In the top end of Arena, the felguard turns into a useless piece of squish. He will be easily controlled or even killed (extremely fast) and even if you summon another from Fel Domination, he will just be taken out again. If he's not killed, its just a big distraction for you're healer trying to keep him alive. You will also be lacking any dps besides the felguard who will be hitting no where near as hard because of all the resillience the other players will have.

For BG's, you can do MUCH more dps as UA since you can stand back and lay down your DoT's on everybody you see. You can also control more with iHoT.

as long as you have:

5/5 improved corruption
soul siphon
5/5 fel concentration
curse of exaustion
siphon life
improved howl of terror

then it doesn't matter really where the rest of the points go and which tree, as you've got the main parts of an afliction pvp spec

^ if you're this deep into affliction, you should get UA. Otherwise you're dots will be easily removed.

42/7/11 is more a raiding build, it can do some good dmg in pvp but your surivability is no where near what sl/sl would be
.

Actually, 43/7/11 is more of a PvE/PvP build. In PvE, 41/0/20 is best for Devestation, Destructive Reach, and Intensity. SL/SL is a build for World PvP and the Arenas because in both situations, it's difficult for you opponents to exploit the weaknesses of the spec: dispellable DoTs and the fel hunter is weak to melee.

if u can stay alive long enough to do get enough dots off then its no a waste of time.

In the BGs, die, wait up to 30 seconds, lay more DoT spells, die, etc.

[pre]2v2 id so dnt take 42/7/11
3v3, 5v5 it could work

Even with the changes, a shadow priest and UA warlock can do well in the 2 man Arenas, and UA can work well in 5 mans.

Also, I am not a huge fan of 7/43/11. No range increase, no spell puchback protection, no real escape mechanism, no snares. A good player can do well with it, but I just don't like it.

Contagion and UA are also important to Affliction in PvP to make sure people don't dispell the DoTs.
