correcting a guildie Follow

I was grouped with my new guildies for my first Kara run last week, and a purple pair of +str/stam/ap leather boots dropped. Even though my boots are green, I thought the stats were better (+agi/less stam/mp5) so I passed. One of the guys fussed at me for not taking the upgrade. I said str does nothing for me, he insisted it added to ap.

Now, this guy knows his rogue backwards and forwards, and I love this guild and didn't want to step on any toes. So, how does one engage in a "does not! does too!" argument with any kind of dignity?

And, as much as I trust you guys, is there an official source I can quote that says agi is our stat of choice? "I know 'cause the internet told me so!" doesn't thrill me as an argument.

Just tell him as it is. It is a proven fact that Strength only adds to our melee Attack Power, while Agility adds to both melee and ranged. Since common logic tells us never to be in melee while we can be ranged, strength does absolutely nothing. If he still doubts you, tell him to go to TKAsomething or this forum and ask about. Just prepare him to be laughed straight off the forum.

WoWwiki should also have the info (although you'd have to search a bit where it is)
And you can always say something like: "i wish strength would give me Ranged AP..."

Best way to prove it, without relying on the many many post floating all over the internet, is to take screenshots.

Go buy a cheap green *** of strength(try to find something with a good bit of +str like between 15-30). First go naked, take screen shots of your character screen showing your ranged DPS. Then take another picture of your pets screen that shows it's stats.

Then equip the Of Strength gear, and take screen shots of the same thing, showing no changes to your ranged stats.

That should keep him quiet.

Better yet, tell him to do the experiment. You could forge or otherwise alter the screen shots, after all, and this guy seems to be the type who won't believe something unless he sees it with his own eyes.

Just tell him Str adds to melee dps, but not to ranged dps and leave it at that.

If he wants to belabor it, then refer him to wowwiki (or wherever). Hopefully, he'll get the idea that you've done your research and know what you're talking about. After that, silence is golden.
