When to make the switch (Enhc. > Resto.)?Follow

Hey guys,

Here is my delimna and one I'm sure a bunch of you guys have faced in the past or will in the near future.

I'm currently a level 61 (almost 62) Enhancement Shaman who is planning on eventually going Resto. The problem is I'm not sure when to make the switch. I would love to give it a shot now, but with the gear I have (mostly STR, AGI, STA)it seems like I wouldn't be nearly as useful as I would be if I just remained Enhc-specced.

Is it best to remain Enhancement and collect gear before making the switch or will "sucking it up" and making the switch now not be that bad?

I've been doing BGs since the late 50's to earn Honor/Tokens for the Resto-version of the Gladiator gear at 70, so that's not a problem. I'm just curious as to what you guys think would be the best way to prepare for a spec switch that seems very dependant on having the proper gear.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Here is my Armory page too btw:

I would say wait until 70 to make the switch, as leveling will be a real pain. What you should do is save any drops or quest rewards you get along the way that give +healing or +damage and healing and just equip them whenever you get asked to heal for an instance. You have a few +damage and healing pieces equipped already, swap those out for stamina and attack power items and save the former gear for your healing set. I personally had no problem healing pre-70 and even a few 70 instances as Enhancement as long as I had a spare healing set. Try things out and see what works for you.

I didn't switch to resto until 70, and even then I played around as a 20/0/41 spec for almost 2 months until my gear caught up. After I got all decent blues and 2 peices of Teir 4 out of Kara I moved to my current 0/3/58 spec.

Like the post above me...save all that healing gear, even if its cloth or leather. The biggest shift is getting out of that melee mentality (i.e. needing to be close to the enemy) to being a ranged class again. Armor is less important early on in PvE healing, stay focused on +INT and +Healing. The mail healing gear will come in time.

This is true however in Outland there are plenty of mail healing items even from the early quests, unlike in old world.

Agreed...there are lots of good +healing mail peices out there. My point is, just don't pass on a nice peice of leather/cloth healing gear. Armor is not as key a stat for Resto (at least in PvE) as it is for a Enhancment spec. I was still using the cloth bracers off of the Huntsman in Kara up until a few weeks ago. Didn't hurt me a bit.

I guess it all depends on how often you solo. If it's not often and you usually go along with friends or run instances to level then spec Resto!

I'd say switch to Elemental til 70 and then go to Resto, but if you're 61 you probably already grabbed the Enhancement rewards from early Outlands quests, meaning it'd take a while to build an elemental set up (making the whole idea rather bad.)

But yeah, hold off til 70 for Resto spec.

Attumen also drops a pair of mail healing bracers, Whilwind Bracers, even before those you can get these from an easy quest in Shadow Lab and put the +30 Healing enchant on them or these which drop in Black Morass.(A little harder to obtain but still fairly easy), both of those can be attained before Kara and are better than the cloth drop from Attumen.

Enhancement still levels better than Elemental up to 70, so unless he specifically wants to be Elemental there's no practical reason to leapfrog this switch.

I leveled enhancement up to 70 and changed to Resto once I had most of my quests complete that I wanted. I did make a list of all the gear I wanted at 70 as a resto spec though and I would choose those rewards over something that helped me as an enhancement shaman though. When I hit 70 and did my respec I was sitting at just over 1k healing and around 120 mp/5 while casting. I did SL last night and it was a breeze. Earth shield and healing stream were keeping the tank topped off when we had 3 mobs or less (paladin) and in a lot of fights I was actually tossing lightning bolts around to make it go faster. Good times!

Ah okay.

My only experience is that I leveled to 70 faster than all of the other shamans I knew who leveled as Enhancement (plus I was ranged, which inherently made leveling safer; plus I had a shield which inherently made the inevitable world PVP safer)
