My paladin is lvl 68 and I never got around to getting my charger. I have the gold and am not too concerned about getting the materials needed for the quest line. But I'm curious about the DM and Scholo quests. Can these quests be duo'd by a 68 pally and a 68 warrior?

I've found that it is incrediably difficult to get groups for these instances on my server. Regretfully I don't belong to a guild which can run me through.

Thanks all

Probably... I think you guys might be able to do it if you're the healer and hes killing everything.

Although I was secretly hoping for a resounding "YES!!!", I'll settle for a "probably". Now I just have somehow convince the warrior that helping me is a wise investment of his time. :-)

Thanks again for the help CaptJack.

I'm in your shoes too, having finished Dire Maul last week and getting an almost 100% clear of Scholomance. The "almost 100% clear" = killing everybody but the Death Knight Darkreaver. While you two can manage Dire Maul without any trouble, I think you will want to have a bigger group for Scholomance. Your duo will be able to tackle every boss in the instance smoothly, but you essentially only get one shot at the Darkreaver sequence.

If you don't kill him and the preceding waves of ghosts on the first try (see the FAQ), you will need to go back to Stormwind to get a new divination scryer and you will need to reset the instance because the hallway to his room locks after you've reached it. You might want to raise your odds of success by picking up a DPS or ideally another pally, just so you don't have to explain this all to your warrior friend.

Hoy's probably right, a little insurance wouldn't help. I did it pre-tbc so I had to have a full group of 60s to do it.

YES!!!!!....but you'll need a good strategy.

Well - the Strat part will be pretty hard. Just pull very carefully. And hopefully one of you is a dwarf so you can tell which crates to go after.

For DM - you can do it. Pretty straight forward. Just remember to clear ALL the walking pats first (the big trees that walk around the courtyard). They can easily ambush you.

For the Scholo final fight - make sure to stay in one corner, and place the Divination Scryer in the position furthest from that corner that you can. Then, ALWAYS pull the mobs into that corner, resting between pulls. If you follow that strategy, you may just make it through :)

Again, it can't be stressed enough, take time to rest when you can between pulls. Don't go running off with 1/2 health and mana just becuase there is only 1 mob. Be patient, and keep yourself topped off so you don't get caught off guard by new mobs.

Finally - just remember that when you kill the mini boss of each wave, that will spawn the next wave (I think). So if you can, use Seal of Wisdom for mana regen on that last mini boss of each wave. That will help.

And of course, follow the FAQ for seal sequence. Good luck, and tell us how it went :)

I think that we will give it a shot this weekend. ANd I'll certainly let everyone know how it goes. The warrior in question is my older brother and we play in the same room. So we communicate quickly and are able to work pretty well as a team. We have played this game together for years so we both know how the other is going to react.

Scholo:
I'd read about that Darkreaver fight and the required reset if we fail. I'm pretty confident that we can pull it off if we are very careful (and follow the guides and FAQ's). But if my confidence is misplaced I'm sure I can convince him to try again. But I'll shop around a little bit for another paladin before we go in...never know.

Strat:
I'm really not too concerned about this instance. The groups can get out of hand. But we are both experienced pullers and careful pulls are the name of the game in that place. Neither one of us is a dwarf...so we are going to have a deal with all the traps.

DM:
I've never been to this instance....not even once. Which is strange since I have a lot of characters and have been playing a long time. I guess I ended up following the same quest chains every time. I'm nervous about what I don't know I guess. But from what you guys are saying this will probably be the easiest of the 3.

Thanks again for all the help guys. I'm going to show this thread to my brother so that he doesn't freak when I suggest duo'ing these instances.

Dire Maul is the easiest.

However, if neither of you have the key, you either have to run Dire Maul East for the key, or do the die/rez on other side of door thing.

Here's a very fast walkthrough for the DM East:

You enter instance.
Kill first mobs in entrance hallway.
The next area will be a large courtyard. Big tree mobs will be walking around the perimeter in a clockwise direction. They can be pulled one at a time (mostly). Pull them into the entrance hallway. The reason for this is that if you don't kill the one you are fighting quick enough, you can easily get ganged up by many many many of them. This will result in a wipe.

NOTE: Wipes aren't too bad since graveyard is really close.

If you look to the right (from the entrance hallway into the courtyard), and you don't see any wandering tree mobs (there will be some stationary ones that you can ignore), make a break for it. Go straight out of the hallway and run around the courtyard in a clockwise direction.

NOTE: You don't need to go into center area of courtyard.

When you reach the opposite side (from entrance hallway), an opening will lead you into another large room. The boss you need to kill is in here. Kill him, and give your "feed" and "barding" to the horse spirit.

Hearth.

Done.

Edit - I forgot to mention - another good thing is to ensure you use elixirs and scrolls for buffs on the Scholo final fight. Also, time your potions well so you can use a few of them if necessary. This is really an endurance fight.

You almost made that sound too easy YJMark. I don't want to go in there thinking it's going to be a cakewalk. :-)

Thanks for the tips...I'm going to reread this thread and keep the WowWiki page open when we start attempting these this weekend. I'm thinking about starting with Strat...since I'm most familiar with that one.

Regretfully I don't have the keys for DM or Scholo...so it will take us a little extra time to get those. A little part of me is starting to wish pallys weren't given special mounts.

ha ha ha. Just be happy we don't have Pally specific flying mounts and epic flying mounts...

Oh, I forgot to mention - in Dire Maul - opposite the entrance hallway, there are multiple openings to adjacent rooms. Go in the middle one. You will be able to see the named mob from the Courtyard. If you start fighting undead (spirit/ghostly things), then you've taken a wrong path.

Have fun with it!!

I just helped a guidie with this last night. Dire Maul is a breeze and you should have no trouble. For scholo, I would suggest you find a dedicated dps class if you don't want to take forever.

It might sound like a pain, but the battle in the basement is really fun (especially if you have multiple paladins in your group).

You dont need a key for DM (or if you do, cant remember, now you have me rethinking, you can let a mob kill you and rez inside) and for scholo, you can kill yourself and rez inside the door. For a pally with a crapload of stam and plate, this can be difficult, but what I did, was strip all the gear off, go to the lake and go under, wait until the breathing goes down and let it take you down to half life, be careful its easy to fully kill youself, and since you are not close enough to the instance, you will have to corpse run. Once you do that, hurry and go the building, and to the right of the instance and inside, there are no mobs, you just run all the way upstairs and jump from the roof to just outside the instance area, you will have to do this a few times as even with half or less health, my spirit kept regnerating my health, after about four times running up and jumping I died, and you can corpse run to the instance and walk through the door and it should let you enter.

Another option, is get a warlock who can Hellfire themselves, rez inside and pull the lever, there is a torch inside the door to open it. I actually lucked out one time, as I saw someone in there and they opened it for me.

Very informative Spicy, thanks. And welcome to the forums. I'm a newcomer myself, only been posting here about 2 weeks. I must have spent 6 months just reading before I actually posted anything.

The easiest way to get into scholo by killing yourself is to just get someone else in your party and DI yourself. People keep forgetting that we have that spell.
#16 Dec 14 2007 at 8:54 AM Rating: Decent
its even better when your DI someone in town who doesnt know they can cancel the buff . . or even know about that power.

first they laugh at the fact that you just died, then they get all nervous when they cant even move or do anything. . . good times.

also DI doesnt cost you any durability.

I forget about DI all the time. Went through Mana Tombs the other day and wiped a couple times. Cursed my stupidity the next day when I remembered that I could have saved the priest every time. Live and learn I guess. I'll have to check the Priest forums to see if someone ranted. :-)

But as an update to my original post. I got all my Holy Water from Strat last night after 2 wipes (damn those stupid gargoyle patrols). I also got the keys to Scholo and DM and ran the censor quest. So I hope to have succefully duo'd my way to a charger by Saturday. Then I get to experience the joy of grinding gold for my brother's mount.

I just wanted to thank everyone again with all of the help on this thread. I got my Charger on saturday and it was a hell of a lot easier than I had hoped.

Just in case any of my fellow paladins are considering duo'ing or even soloing these quests...here is a brief summary of my experience running the dungeons with a 68 paly and 68 warrior.

DM: Piece of cake. Easily able to thread our way through the various mobs and take out the boss and his buddies. Not much of a challenge for such high levels.

Strat: Getting the holy waters was a bit of a pain. It was pretty easy to sneak by all of the big groups or to just wade in and kill them. The only problem was the occassional "gargoyle surprise" which resulted in 2 wipes. The damn things would jump us in the middle of a fight and then proceed to multiply to a point where I couldn't out heal their damage. Keep your eyes open and give them a wide berth.

Scholo: Simple to sneak by or kill most mobs all the way to Rattlegore. Dropping him was no sweat. The first couple waves of quest ghosts were laughable. The third wave wiped us because we got overconfident and stood in the middle of the room (ignoring everyone's advice and the wowwiki walk-thru). Got swamped and I couldn't keep up with heals. After resetting we stayed in the corner and had no issues. I actually enjoyed this fight quite a bit the second time around.

I love my new charger and it I think it was well worth the time and effort involved in getting it. Good luck to all of you out there who still have yet to finish the quest line. Don't give up :-)

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question because I've looked everyone and I never saw anyone ask this question.

I just hit 60 a while ago and I really HATE instances. However I do want to get my epic mount because the increased speed will really help in BG's and such. However I really would prefer to just pay for the training and farm the gold for it by mining. Can Paladins just buy the training or do we have to quest it?

Thanks!
#21 Dec 19 2007 at 4:14 PM Rating: Excellent
Sure you can buy the skill if you'd like.

Both. You can either get it from the quest, or you can just buy it off the trainer.

In which case, should you do the quest, you won't get the riding skill with it; so you'll be doing the quest solely for the charger.

Which is still pretty cool for completeness +1 and inventory space -1.

dont forget the exp. think i am getting like 9k per turnin some of wich are easy.

scholomance can be easily done with multiple paladins actually.

since being mostly undead, smite/holy wrath spam ftw, the tank should always have absolute agro, and nobody will(should) die.

but..you, another paladin and your war friend should be more than enough for the quest part in scholo.

so yes it is doable. :)
