so as a shadow priest i really wanted to get the necklace of hightend potental off of the second boss in shadow labs. i have run many MANY shadow labs with my guild to get the item.. but it never dropped. tonight after my guild had all went to bed. i pugged shadow labs.. I grouped with a warrior. a priest . a warlock and a shamen.

we got to the second boss and instantly the warlock dies.. he does not release to try to run back to help.. later the shamen dies.. then i die.. the boss is at like five percent.. im the only one who releases because i want to get back in and help win before the tank and healer die.

i get into the instance and see that the tank and the healer have taken the boss the last few percent to death.

up to this point i am top on the damage meter. and i was the only one who cared enough about winning to rez and try to run back..

low and behold the necklace drops.. and of course i cannot roll on it. so the worlock .. who has bagged *** the whole instance wins it.

i instantly left the group.. im sorry but that is just to much to take.

I personally say don't release unless you die while the boss is at high health. It's easier that way.

And always nice to see someone so worried about loot that they just leave a group mid-run because someone else got the item. Smiley: disappointed

If you're dead you're not dpsing. That fight does suck, but from the way you said it there, it's your fault you died. It's also not the warlocks fault you released mid fight and the last two people killed him while you were out of the instance. Yes, it does suck when stuff like this happens. But I don't think it warrants a whine post.

Perhaps my reaction stems from the fact that your user name irritates me, no matter how innocent you say it is/it's a nickname people call you or whatever. :S

Must say... I try to keep an open mind on this topic. Although I do have to agree with Khalane; it's not the tohers fault you released. I also have to agree with Poldaran on the fact that releasing on a boss with low health is, well, sort of stupid.

As of a personal note, I need more information; did you tell your group how badly you wanted the necklace? Did you tell them you released (yes I know you can easily see it, but in my experience people don't check character portraits)? If not, blame yourself.

However...

A group that loots a boss before all party members are there, fails. A PuG working with the IG-auto-need/greed system, fails. And, imo, a shadow priest that needs the necklace of Hightened Potential, fails, although that is not the discussion here.

You all screwed up here IMO... and leaving a party half way, well, then maybe you didn't deserve that item.

dont act so high and mighty like you have never gotten mad.

I've gotten plenty mad. I've been so pissed off that I broke my knuckle by punching a wall over loot. But I completed the obligation I had signed on for. I finished my run.

Being pissed because you lost loot happens. Quitting shows lack of maturity. Then again, so does punching a wall, but at least it only hurt me. Smiley: laugh

It's not acting high and mighty, it's acknowledging the fact that you're a damn *** hat who left a group because he didn't get the drop he wanted. You're not justified in your actions, you're being that 5 year old brat who knocks over the legos because he can't play with them.

**** and moan a little more, you won't find sympathy for that kind of crap on these boards.

not to say that whoever looted wasnt a blithering son of b**ch [though iam sure his mother is a wonderful women, but theres so few effective insults that dont refer to family in the english language]

That same thing happened with me for the 2nd boss with my rogue. WIth the cape. I had notified them before that i was here for it. I was coming back from the grave and somebody had looted it and it was rolled and taken.

the second time it dropped the holy pala needed it cause he was going to try out retribution so he could raid in his guild. and so he needed it more than me [his words]

As so very screwed up that was, i left neither off them.

To the OP, it just seems like you've learned your lesson the hard way. Welcome to the club, buddy.

So to compound your not getting the loot you want you decide to damage your reputation by being an asshat and bailing on the group? You are in a PUG and the boss is down to 5% health and you release......I can see you being pissed, but be pissed at yourself. Its your own fault. Live and learn.

Releasing at 5% is really, really stupid. There's no other way of putting it. Even if you make it into the instance, there's no way in hell you'll be able to run up to them in time, and if they do down it you can't get the loot. Then on top of that, made the others in the group suffer because you did something stupid.

Bravo, I would have gkicked you.

You either learn the hard way or the easy way.

Oh and the only reason it dropped was because the game knew you wouldn't be able to roll for it. If you had gotten back in time to help the group finish off the mob then something else would have dropped.

First off, that sucks that you haven't gotten the drop. Second off, releasing at 5% seems foolish, simply because you are probably not going to be able to get back in the instance fast enough to help if there is just a healer and a tank left.

Thirdly, and this is the most important point I want to make:

If the tank dies, healer's fault
If the healer dies, tank's fault
If the DPS dies, DPS's fault

My anger is more verbal. I'll be shouting profanities all throughout the run, but I'll still complete it. The only time I've ever bailed on a run was back in Blackrock Depths when we wiped on the first pull due to how the majority of the group played. I felt bad back then, not because I left the numbnuts sailing their own lava sea, but because I left a good healer with them as well. Had to whisper her and explain the situation. She told me she needed to do the run.

I didn't.

It was the last piece of my T1. The guy who won it was completely new to the guild and was only level 58. We had no loot system beyond straight rolls. He won the roll, I "took a bio" and punched a wall. Broke two knuckles(at least the guy at the ER said he thought I had...just gave me very nice painkillers and sent me on my way). Played the rest of the night with ice on my knuckles. But I still completed the raid.

Worst part is...I still have never gotten that piece of T1. Smiley: frown

You're right, the best solution to the group as a whole not doing very much damage is to make sure you die so they do even less.

Carry on.

I'm sorry you had to learn the lesson the hard way, we've all had similar situations at one point or another and have learned not to be so quick on the release button.
