shadowstep 1v1 guide!
okay i did a good amount of testing (and typing.. no caps of course) and figured out the main techniques against most of the opponents i face in 1v1 combat
i do not have solid info on resto shamans, or druids of any kind, since they are the only hard fights for the build... so they will be skipped for now, ill let you know those when i got a good mechanic for them
info on me? 10k hp, 216 resil when i did most of these fights... always fighting people over-gearing me, and trying to refrain from cooldowns
im big on EA, its your best friend as shadowstep, its part of almost all my openers... slice n dice when you can is also advised since its a big help (even better cuz of ea hehe) and i poison swap before i jump someone if i need too... its how i fight, so learn to love it
layout: CLASS(mh poison, oh poison)
-----------------------
hunter (deadly, crip)
(non-bm) premed, step, cs is the best opener you can have if they flare camp. after cs lands i shiv then ea. if they scatter shot/frost trap, blind them right away and close the gap... re-shiv then just work em over as combat would... keep ghostly strike up the best you can (negates some pet damage). when they get near death, save for a ks (best move for the situation). if they get off a second scatter shot, you should have shadowstep back up by then, use it into a shiv (damage is not how you kill a hunter, staying melee range is). beware entrapment on frost traps, vanish or blind if it happens (try not to blind, save it for frost/scatter combos)
(bm hunters) premed, step, cs is still your opener... but bm will pop wrath right way, so just land a ea while they are stunned. either a: sprint and evasion and just chase em down, pop ghostly when you can and usually you can win the dps race if you stay with them! IMPORTANT to stay melee range; if you lose melee range, vanish - or option b: sprint, vanish, cos if your serpent stung, and hide till the red goes away (b is safer, but has a better chance to fail you... particularly if they havent used flare yet)
NOTE: i specced out of riposte and imp sprint... as 20-0-41 i can only do option B successfully on bm hunters
paladin (wound, crip for heal/deadly, crip for ret)
(healer) this fight sucks, its attrition... in 1v1 though you can win if your smooth with it all. premed, cs, ea is your opener... step, kick anytime they try to heal and your out of range (save it for that purpose). IMPORTANT when they bubble, they will heal... at this point, run away, cos, and get out of combat! sit down, eat, stealth! its free hp you will need. they will chase ya down though, but lucky you, both of you are out of combat, get up, sap him, and bandage (if they trinket it to stop your bandage, blind and run/stealth eat somewhere)
its a pissoff tactic, but most my good paladin fights last 7+ minutes every time, you win if you force them to bubble twice.... they only get 2 lol, then you got a few minutes to waste em down
(ret) is a joke, seriously. premed, cs, ea opener... hemo, gouge... ghostly to break gouge, slice n dice then just work em down... when they bubble, handle it like they are healing and go heal yourself too, same method. save step-kicks for a: heals you need to interrupt (NOT flash of light, anything else though) or b: finisher evis for quick burst ending
rogue (deadly, crip)
important to get the opener, i suggest tab/sap if you can, premed, cs, EA!, hemo, gouge, ghostly strike, build to a good ks. blind as a counter move only, use throw (reg or deadly) if you see them gouge-restealth, then step to em and remind them they arent stealthing. step if you havent yet when they hit about 15% or lower, it will give you a good 2-3 seconds of time before they realize your behind them (behind+ks+superpowered ghostly strike is a vicious end)
im sure you noticed, i said deadly for poisons... sub WAS about stunlock, rushdown works a lot better... especially builds with cheat death, feel free to give em 1pt ruptures too, ping damage prevents stealth attacks or vanish hiding a lot
mirror cooldowns too! evasion mirror, vanish mirror, vanish if they ar, be willing to burn what they burn... its a fight of hp drain you want since you have cheat death and 9 times out of 10 they wont, so youll win it most likely... just dont be afraid to use some things to win
priest (wound, crip for heal/mind numb, crip for shadow)
(heal) premed, cs, ea, shiv, slice n dice... just wail on em. step after the first scream (dont trinket it) since its early in the fight, and they arent needing the space to rush heals... usually i save ks for the step. trinket the second fear fast as you can, kick the heal you know they are trying to pull off. blind is a 15 yard interrupt so use that to stop heals too (deadly throw should be a last resort)
keep slice n dice and EA up the best you can, cos when your about to get hit with chastise or when you need a break to bandage (cos-blind-bandage) and this fight is cake... they are too fragile and too vunerable to crip poison and all you ways to get back after a psy scream (long cd for that is their deathbed)
(shadow) premed, garrote, shiv, ea is a better opener then normal cs... not judgemental to the heavy stun resist they use, and extra damage to a non-heal class is a bane to them, from that ea hemo into a slice n dice, then hemo up to save some cp.... they will psy scream->mind flay, so you respond with step, ks IMPORTANT: cos when you see a: big racial spell called devouring plague land on you or b: shadow weaving stacks 5 or c: your getting mind flayed from a distance, and got no recovery tools... too early is a bad move, so wait for a good chance
shaman
will do later
druid
will do later
mage (deadly or mind numb, crip) [preference]
premed, sap, garrote, shiv, ea for opener... then hemo, slice n dice... from there save some cp, step when they blink, and ks em.... they will hate you for it and its a big opening for free dps
ice block: restealth if you can (blind the pet) vanish if you hafta... vanish and waiting out the pet is a ***** move, but it works and your here to win!
elemental gets summoned: cos the first freeze, they usually ice block at this point, see above
you see a AP go off: looks like lightning on the mage (fire mages mainly) just hit cos, youll see why in about a second or two as most mages mash they ap-pom-pyro sequence without noticing a cos shield for it
cold snap second ice block!: prep second vanish lol, simple ya? sprint to hide fi you hafta if the elem is out again too
most say kill the elem, and thats true in arena... but in 1v1 i dont hafta usually, waiting out some time does good things (kills elem in 45 seconds, they may have used 1 of 2 blocks, some of their mana is gone, you canget a cos/step back)
fairly easy, this class is 1 of 3 or 4 really vunerable to step-evis finishers
warrior (deadly, crip)
premed, step, garrote, ghostly strike, rupture, hemo x2, ks, evasion, hemo until evasion is about to end, ghostly strike, rupture, hemo, slice n dice... keep melee range and dont try anything silly, if your even near their gear level that will win, if only because you both hit low hp they execute you lolimmune it and you finish him
vanish, cs if you feel the need, blind is almost a full waste, ea doesnt yield enough dps in this rush fight for my use
warlock (wound, crip for sl-sl/deadly, crip for anything else)
premed, cs, shiv, ea is the opener... slice n dice 1 point, ks when you can... its a basic style combat uses... but heres the big difference
when they coil, step back to em, trinket the fear thatll prob happen... if they link coil and fear together, then step after fear runs out... save the trinket, if they fear straight out just trinket it, save step for coil
blind felguard, anything else you can just ignore unless you wanna restealth (ks lock, gouge felhunter, vanish)
cos when you are loaded of dots, or need to break CoExhaustion... also a good idea if they get far away somehow and you are getting drain lifed, but that usually means you lost already anyways
they are surprisely easy for shadowstep, minus the sl/sl kind... thats kinda rough for everyone though lol.. ea is a BIG help so use it here if no where else
ill update when im done with druid and shaman testing, until then... <3 enjoy you heartless bastards
