Right now im a level 40 frost mage who is a goblin engineer 225with mining and i was wondering if i should stick with mining and engineer or should i get the engineering to 375 drop mining and grab tailoring for the nice epic's? would it be worth it or would it just be easier to grind and get season 1 arena gear?

The crafted epics from tailoring are so simple to get that it is insane not to be a tailor. It is also the easiest profession to level, so, I'd wait till 70 and powerlevel tailoring. Use mining and engineering to make money (well, use mining to make money... engineering to blow things up)...

Keep engineering if you like. If you feel like you're going to be strapped for cash, drop engineering and pick up tailoring. Level tailoring with cloth drops along the way and sell all your metal bars you smelt from the ore. You will make a fortune!

The only reason I would consider keeping engineering is if you plan on pvping a lot. I personally haven't found many reasons to pick it up, at least not for endgame PvE (what I do). I would keep mining and pick up tailoring if you want to, that or you could pick up skinning or something of that sort to have two sources of income and then drop one and buy the mats to level tailoring (cost me about 750g-1k (I believe) when I did it from 1-375 in 3 days.

Getting to Engineering 225 by lvl 40 suggests that you've put effort into the skill. If that is true, then giving it up is a tough choice. One of the questions you should ask yourself - why did I take up Engineering? If you are having fun with it, then keep it. If you are bored with it, then drop it.

For mining - I would suggest to keep it forever. It is such a good money maker, especially now that you are lvl 40 and have a mount. Also, if you have any alts, you can use this toon to feed them mining mats really easily, and help them power-level their professions.

Tailoring - I agree with the other posters - wait till lvl 70, and power level it. 2 things to help this go smoother and cheaper:

1) Run lower level instances once you hit lvl 70, and get massive amounts of mats. Deadmines for Linen and Wool. SM for Silk, etc... This will save you money, and is kinda fun. Gathering up an entire instance and AoE.....FUN!!!!
2) Start saving your mats now. Create an alt for storage, and send them all the stuff you don't use for First Aid.

Alright that sounds good i grab engineering when i heard they were going to be able to make their own flying mounts that pretty much the only reason i grabbed it but i think i might drop it at 70 if the mounts are to hard to get or make a few gyro's and sell those for cash

If you are going to level engineering up, you are gonna be upset if you drop it at 70 as it is a huge money sink. Choose your crafting professions wisely. I leveled enchanting and tailoring, but if I could do it over, I would have leveled herbalism and tailoring. It is unbelievable how much high level herbs sell for. But I have recenlty started de'ing for money and just last night I made 200g and I am just starting out.

Tailoring is nice if you PVE, but I don't PVE on my mage. I'm basically done with PVE in this game, I got to Leo/Al'Ar in T5 and got tired of spending so much time raiding. My locks exalted every instance faction, after a while I just got sick of it.

So for a pure PVP mage, theres no benefit to tailoring. Not everyone does PVE or runs dungeons, I'm gearing up completely through PVP. Only thing is I have to run heroic mech a bunch to get my PVP cloak, and I'm still not revered with Sha'tar for the helm enchant yet..

Also theres other professions that basically require 2 slots, especially if its your main. Engineering, jewelcrafting, alchemy all basically require a gathering prof. Sure you can drop the gathering prof at 70, but you give up a HUGE source of income for replacable gear. Depends how seriously you take your raid damage. If you're dead serious about it, you should have enchanting too for ring enchants..

well if you do want to do some raiding and save yourself quite a bit of time and waiting for loot go with tailoring, you can knock off about half of your pieces with T5 quality gear.

The most damage output raid spec in the game currently is 10/48/3. When Icy Veins comes out next patch, it may shift to 2/47/12 or 0/47/14. Either way, the most damaging raid spec is deep fire, not hybrid fire (e.g. arcane/fire) or frost. If you decide to raid frost, You can go 10/0/51 or 2/0/59, but 17 points it too many to burn for raiding just to get improved counterspell. That's a PvP talent more than a PvE talent. Just realize you will be doing less damage than you could be doing.

I didn't like to use fire, but when you start to see big crits with your ignite ticks and staying way above a large group of people in damage you begin to join the burnt side.
