Ok,

As I am approaching endgame I am beginning to think of end-game guilds. Kara, raids, Heroics and other endgame activities. My question is:

1. I would like to work my way up the guild ranks and become the MT. However, I have never tanked anything other than normal instances. Do other warriors within the guild help/teach new warriors in gearing / talents / etc. so they can become better for the guild?

2. Is there a site or list that I can go to that will give me guild information / websites so that I can begin to apply and fill out apps?

3. What are the main things I should look at when investigating a endgame guild?

4. Finally - should I wait until 70 to begin my guild shopping?

Thanks

oh boy, you can´t be serious, now are you?

What you refer to as "end-game" might be viewed different from person to person,
Heroics and Karazhan certainly are far from being end game, but they are important milestones to take, going for the real end-game-encounters.

If you plan on becoming the MT, than you will need alot of Time, actually you have to be there always. Healer can be replaced for a run, DDs can be replaced, but MTs are damn hard to substitute.

With that being said, yes, there are a plenty of sites out there "teaching" the theoretical part of the tankside of your life.

The mains things to look for, which actually applies mostly to you is:
do they have the resources and need to equip you?
why should they pick you and not some already equipped tank.
there are many questions like that, i am sure you can think of some....

Now the best way to start is to gather the best tanking-equip you can get your hands on outside 10-25-man instances. This will show guilds you are applying to that you actually care and that you are very dedicated.
For a Guild you should try to get into one that frequently does karazhan, gruul and maghteridon.

1 and 2 are... not anything we can answer. Typicially speaking it'd probably be a bad sign if the other Warriors were ******** who won't give you the time of day, but the level of 'apprenticeship' or similar you might see is going to vary wildly. For that matter, the MT position tends to be fairly static; if there are other good, competant Warriors there they're probably filling the slot, but attrition and time off means you could get it eventually.

As for #2, the site will usually have an application template, with questions about yourself and your gear, or you may be recruited in-game (depends on the level of the guild; most of the larger guilds require formal apps, smaller ones tend to not). If there's an application, fill it out and don't lie; they don't tend to be horribly complicated. Use proper grammar and try not to go either way overboard on information (i.e. "Tell us about yourself" is meant for a paragraph at best, not a three-page answer) or be too terse ("What is your gaming experience" should probably not be answered by "Stuff"), but other than that it's... something you have to figure out on your own. Use common sense.

As for #3, it usually helps if they have an opening you can fill (offtank to start, most likely) and you mesh with their members, i.e. you don't find them horribly annoying or vice versa. Heroics aren't what most people consider end-game, though... more like middle-game. If you haven't run many (any) Heroics before, you're not likely to have much luck getting into even a decent Kara guild. Especially as a tank you can find a group for Heroics fairly easily; it's the best way to look for guilds and start making contacts.

As for #4, yes.

Thanks for the info. This is what I needed to get started. I know the MT is fairly static my plan was to be OT for experience until the guild decided that I was ready or there was a change in the MT position.

Waiting until 70 will give me plenty of time to begin picking up better gear through instances - which is horribly lacking due to the recent birth of my son.

@ lvl 62 I should have plenty of time to really polish up my character and "resume" for the future.

To become MT for a Kara level guild you must either find a guild that plans to start Kara and lacks a MT or find a guild that lost MT. In both situations you must:
1. Have skill - you must be good at tanking and preferably have expirience.
2. Have gear needed to at least start tanking Kara. New guild's GMs will preferably nominate for MT a person with best activity and gear.
3. Be known as a good tank for at least some guild members (preferably officers and GM).
I think that you might have problems with becoming a MT just after leveling to 70 even if you manage to get decent tanking gear from 5 men instances, crafted items or reputation rewards.
This is because there is actually a lot of warriors with nice gear who look for guild. They will have better gear, more expirience and probably will be choosen for the spot.
I think your best bet would be to gather best tanking gear you can get (including badge rewards, reputation rewards, craftable epics, heroic drops, 5 men drops) AND best DPS gear you can get as well. Try to improve your skill and tank a lot to be noticed by members of good guilds.
Many peple found their way to raiding guild when they were grouped with some of the members from such guilds in 5 men instances and made good impresion.
If you will get a chnce to become a OT or even DPS warrior take it. Your chances for a MT spot are slim. As OT/DPS warrior you will get expirience and gear and might become MT eventually (if you will still be intrested that is)

Oh and I want to underline one thing that has been said before - MT MUST ATTEND 90 - 95 % of raids. If you cannot better dont apply for that spot...

As others have stated, if you want want to MT, be prepared for the attendance required. The gear and the skill are generally in my opinion not much of an issue, as all of these things can be gained with help. I helped a lot of OTs as a raid MT in gearing them up, and helping with some of the finer points of tanking. The most difficult part of finding good tanks is finding ones that will consistently be at raids. In a tanking position, in a real end-game guild, you have to be there. Barring real life emergencies, you are expected to be at every raid. Because of the gear dependancy of warriors and the fact that for a tank, you are either at the proper gear level to tank something or you are not, you can't always be so easily replaced. If you have a DPSer slacking a little, or a healer that's not quite on the ball for a night, it can at times be compensated for. If you have to bring in an improperly geared tank who can't take the hits for the raid zone, that's all she wrote. You can only do so much for a tank.

And then of course, you run into the common problem of tanks burning out from the time demands required. It's important for you to know what you're walking into if you really want to do it, so think about whether or not you're willing to give multiple nights out of your week to the guild, every week out of the year. Not to mention farming for raid consumables. :D
