Well I just want to say, being a fan of Ret in PVP (havn't gotten to the point where they apparently suck, yet) GJ Tommy... don't let anyone break your stride.

What these guys don't seem to get is your best weapon in real PVP is the element of surprise and as lame as it sounds it's increadibly true. While most of the time Ret doesn't serve as a threat to the enemy, it's safe to say that 'most of the time' this is due to the fact that the Ret pally has no clue what the hell he's doing.

Tossing Conc does much more than is apparent. People trying to drop target to find a new target are auto-assigned you again each second due to the consistant damage, and the hits ***** with heals and CCs. I personally love the tactic...

In the end it boils down to who can react and counterbalance a surprise tactic and who can deal with it. You'll probobly find a bit more teams on the whole that can deal with it in top end, but a real *surprise* will be effective even higher I believe.

Don't listen to me, though... Never played a Paladin past 48 =P

That much gear and still no high rating?

Reminds me of the full merciless enhancement shammy on my server, that just can't seem to rise above 1600. Ret =/= viable in arena.

i found it interesting that the pally in the link i posted had a higher personal rating than that of each of his teams. concluding, when that ret pally is in the battle they are more successful.

The fact that 1756 is 35th in that battle group says a lot about who you guys are fighting, too.

I've spent most of the weekend in Arena or BG and all I have to say is

ELLOH'F'uckingELL, ret.

Bad, horrible, laughable, useless, completely and utterly the worst pvp class in the game.

Had some tough Ret pally in his leet kara epics and dungeon blues decide to go toe to toe with me. We had killed his support so the other people stood back and I played with him. He finally stopped and tried to make a move on the clothie, the cloth just kited him. He eventually stopped and waited to die.

Too all the ret paladins on the other team with blue weapons, or even kara epics. Thank you, you helped me win the game.

He would have if they could get up to his arena bracket, but they aren't so he doesn't.

BGs
#37 Dec 17 2007 at 9:12 AM Rating: Good
BGs are too chaotic to get an accurate report of who is truly better at pvp. Arena is a better qualifier of who is better at fighting than BGs are.

BGs are mainly made up of isolated fights with a few full blown skirmishes here and there. Anytime you are one versus one with an opponent it’s a good indicator of who is good and who is doing their daily. It doesn’t matter if it’s BGs, arena or in Goldshire.

Oh and there are tons of ret pallies hovering around 1500.

(And yes I know all but a few will probably stay there)
#39 Dec 17 2007 at 9:28 AM Rating: Good
It's still chaotic and unpredictable. You could be having a good 5-minute fight verses an opponent, then three of his buddies come and roll you over. Gear is also a huge factor in BGs, something that eventually gets weeded out in arena. Once you get to a certain arena rating, then gear becomes less and less of a factor and what the class can actually DO becomes the key to winning.

I'm running into more and more Ret pallies in s1/s2 gear. The problem is that the arena gear for ret pallies is an abortion lacking resistance. Also comes down to the fact that Ret is a crit based class in an environment where crit is becoming less and less a factor in being successful, in fact builds that rely on crit are failing more and more often.

I would like to see one in S3, but frankly they aren't earning the points fast enough. There are exceptions to this rule, as mentioned I have a guildy in t5 epics and s3 gear and I am pretty sure he would be a headache but overall he would rank relatively low on the list.

Damn double posts!

In semi good news our Ret pally was placing consistently in the top 5-10 dps in SSC the other night. Bad news is that we had a lot of off raiders on and couple of our top dps were taking a night off.

I'm pretty much in full agreement with that post.

I am just now in the process of gearing my Shaman up for PvP, so of course I'm getting serially rolled in BG's, but Ret Paladins... man... even in full S1 with a Deep Thunder I just can't bring myself to be concerned about them. In fact, the only time they are dangerous is when they stop fighting and starting turtling like a Holy Paladin, healing themselves and taking forever to kill while half a dozen of their buddies run over to support them.

Everything group needs from a ret paladin can be done better by a holy paladin.

Discuss.

I don't see holy paladins knocking down a Crusader Strike to refresh all the judgements on the mob.

Your 5s teams sucks. You guys lost to all but 1 team with a healer, yes, you can burst down soft targets in 2s, but almost any class has a spec viable for that (see: POM-Pyro) that sucks for anything else and when you start encountering people w/ some resil your 3k crits are going to be laughable, especially if they have heals behind them.
