Paladin fighting Warlock flowchartFollow

#1 Dec 11 2007 at 8:37 AM Rating: Excellent
I came up with this in the Paladin forums. A lot of people thought it was funny and I thought you guys might get a kick out of it too. This is my perspective of how fights with Warlocks go.

I've got a lvl 59 demo lock with... probably not the ideal gear.

Around lvl 56 or 57, I was attacked by a paladin. I think he was around lvl 54.

Anyway, he was trying to attack NPCs from a very small horde area, I forget the name. I watched him kill one NPC, run away, heal and as he returned, I sent my felguard at him. Of course, he tried to run away, but I chased him down (he didn't go too far). He came right for me, but with a few shadowbolts and my felguard, he died rather quickly. I'm hoping he had worse gear than me, since I didn't even need to heal during the fight. Was rather sad that I took him so easily.

But yeah... that chart is kind of funny.

I play a prot pally and I've actually killed a couple locks (maybe around 10 different ones across 69 levels?). It's a little easier to outplay them, though, if you can predict every mistake they are going to make within the first 2-3 spells.

XD I think that's a general consensus. When I see a Pally in BG or WPvP I usually just run... Not worth the 12 minutes it would take for one of us to die~

In world PvP I've only ever fought three pallys.

I killed one. In the other two cases, they bubbled and hearthed. How sad is that?

Very sad, as I mentioned in the Paladin thread I never bubble hearth cause I consider it to be cheap.

I dunno if it's my strategy or what, but 9/10 times I usually lose to a warlock, especially if they are Affliction. The only time it seems that I have a chance is if they have that Felguard out. The melee damage I can take, the running around screaming while my soul is burning is a little too much for me.

It does take fookin ages to kill the b*st*rds, I must admit.

I really hate em, actually. I rolled one to see what it was like. BOOOOORING!

they're built to just out-last people, the only time i've lost to them is when they're engineering and pop the shadow reflector at the right time. bloody insta-gibbed myself.. :( lolz

A human pally is right up there on my hate list next to a ne hunter. There is nothing like having nightfall proc and goin OMG ima get him finally.. then to see the word immune show up and see all that health get restored... What a waste of 10 min in wsg last week.

Boring at for levels 20-30... and that's not including PVP which is still very fun.

Locks fun taking like 8 guys at once, but as Prot Pally I'd run Armory and RFD by pulling litterally 15 at once (got real comfy with the Healer)... Every 1/3 a second I'd see about 25 Yellow numbers going off =P

Boring my ***! Sooooooo fun.

if you want to do that, roll mage, spec elemental and then put on molten armour. just run through and watch the mobs kill them self, then chuck off the odd AE, frost nova, CoC etc... to finish them ^^

heck even us locks can do that no issue. either afliction and dot + run till everything's dead OR get big blue to collect loads of mobs, then do like 2-3 SoC's and they're all dead ^^

Hahaha I don't think I conveyed my message correctly =P

I mean when I was like level 38 fighting level 36 Elites I was tanking 15 of them. Point was it was very thrilling, to say the least.

Seeding is fun, but Arcane/Ice Mage is definatly better... problem is even the best of Mages has trouble doing any good Instance (Elite) AEing past Azeroth, in fact I don't think I've seen any do anything past BRD, especially w/o a healer. Great for farming tho XD

FOUGHT A 68 PROT PALLY WITH MY 60 AFFL LOCK LAST NIGHT ONE ON ONE IN AB FOR LITERALLY 3 MINUTES LAST NIGHT AND WON. I WAS FARM GUARDING AND THE REST OF MY TEAM WAS ZERGING STABLES OR HOLDING MINE, BS AND LM. I WAS ALL ON MY OWN. FIGHT WENT LIKE THIS (SORRY FOR CAPS)...

UA, coa, cor... he starts hitting me... death coil, fear then reapply DoT's with sl and immolate this time and the drain life... My health is pretty damn full, he bubbles and heals...I wait him out, iHoT, UA, coa, cor, Fear just before he gets to me etc. It was absolutely sick how long this went on for. He would let his health get extremely close to zero before he would bubble. I think I got him with a timely Nightfall Proc so I got an instant Shadow Bolt then Death coil and he was about to bubble. Shocked the hell out of him (and me for that matter) that a 60 could take him down.

Just for my own knowledge and to make sure I don't have things backwards: Aren't DoTs a FILO thing? So shouldn't the order be reversed to prevent cleansing?
#18 Dec 12 2007 at 8:10 AM Rating: Decent
I actually don't know. I am interested in an answer too. I only cast the UA first because of the cast time involved. I was recasting Dot's whenever I could but I did not notice if he was cleansing the later applied ones. It was 3:00 in the morning so I was pretty tired. It was the first time I've ever had a one on one with a pally for that long so I've never noticed before.
#19 Dec 12 2007 at 8:24 AM Rating: Default
They should have changed cleansing (and all dispels) from FILO to random a while ago.

Thanks. I thought it was random but then I saw someone mention a few days ago or so that it was FILO so I thought maybe there was a changeback and was quite confused. Thanks for clearing that up.

last i knew it was random, so yeah. UA first to protect the rest of the clensable dots you cast after.

I don't think it's sad, I actually find it quite funny. I feel so offended when pally does and find myself sometimes shouting out loud "How rude" or "Don't you dare to do that" (afterwards when I realize that the pally is really going hs out, I usually congratulate him in my mind while accepting my lost honor points with a smile on my face).

I would definitely amuse my self by doing that if I was able to, even though it may be a bit sad. Whatever makes me happy :)

I liked the chart anyways, thanks CapJack.
