I am the Main Tank for my guild in Karazhan and we are doing very well downing all of the bosses "excluding Netherspite and Nightbane" up to Prince. I have 12,124 HP "15,624 HP buffed", 14,118 Armor and 509 Defense. Does this look like decent stats to withstand the Phase 2 part of the Prince fight ? We tried him several times the past two nights and gotten the Enfeeble/Infernal part down pretty good. One main problem I had on 3 attempts was getting swatted for tons of HP three times in a row and dieing.

I was hoping to hear some thoughts from other main tanks as to what the most important stat or stats I need to work on to overcome this problem. It may not only be a fault on my part for the wipes but I'm sure theres something I could do to knock down the damage I am taking. Below is the link to my armory profile if anyone cares to check it out. I'd really appreciate any advice or criticism anyone has to offer.

You only need 490 defense points to become crit immune from raid bosses, so you can play around with other stats

Talent-wise, well you got everything nailed down for most MT tanks, the only problem I see is your 2 points in Impoved Taunt, that is a big no-no, relocate those points into improved shield wall.

3 points in Heroic strike is nice as well as 2 points in Improved bloodrage is ok, but 1 point from heroic strike and the rest from bloodrage can go into improved sunder armour as, that way your devastate only costs 9

Try this talent

Recommendations
1. = Get a better shield, you can get a good shield from exalted Shat'tar, or alternatively save 33 badges to buy the shield of Coldarra.
2. = Get more dodge + parry rating, your dodge rating is rather low, try looking around for items that give defense + dodge rating, you can get it from better items
3. = Resocket your gems, they're good, but it will be better to have superior type gems socketed
4. = Enchantments for items, your legs needs a better enchantments, try finding a leather worker for epic Nethercleft Leg Armor or superior yet cheaper Clefthide Leg Armor, for the shoulder, try getting the enchantments from your chosen side of either Aldor or Scryer, for Body armor find enchanter for +150 life.

Don't worry though, 2nd phase of Prince is a major pain for most MT tanks, because you got to deal with fast parry rating from prince himself, getting your armour sundered and getting thrashed quickly.
In that phase your healers must be overhealing you constantly

Good suggesting would be getting more gears from Mores for the belt, necklace + socketable hand from Maiden, possible T4-hands and legs from Curator, and socketable boots from Chess ( Alternatively pray that a good tanking boots also drops from trash in Kara )

I'm aiming for the Coldarra Shield "25 badges so far" since I would be losing Def, Block and Stamina if I went with the Crest. I knew about the Nethercleft Armor but I had no idea about the Clefthide Kit, so I will try to acquire one of those for my legs. I'll drop Imp. Taunt and get 3 points into Imp. Sunder since a lot of things in Karazhan aren't tauntable and I spam Devastate like a madman.

As far as the gems and enchants go, It will take a little time but I'll get superior gems and a few more enchants where needed. The gear itself is a different story, Each night we do Karazhan there's almost always a different Off Tank. We have 4 tanks including me so there's always the chance that I won't get a piece of armor if and when it drops.

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying it might take me a while to get the items I need. I'm aware that a lot of guilds like to gear up the Main Tank first but I'm not going to deny my fellow guildies a shot at the treasures they've worked so hard to down bosses for. I appreciate all of you input WHRyder, I was very helpful.

It's funny you mentioned this fight. Yesterday was my 1st time co-tanking in kara. I solo tanked all of them (illian, that magey guy, and curator), except for this guy.. he's a beast. We had a decked out tank for him.

When he entered phase 2, our tank poped shield wall. And we still wiped. Bad luck with those fire guys and debuffs + AoE.

Well next time around, we did not get so unlucky with debuffs. However our tanks shield wall was on CD. I gave him:

-Ironshield Potion - helped for 2 minutes boost his armor for phase 2
-Elixir of Major Defense- just a nice boost in armor
-There's a book of the mountain king? laying around in Kara tomes. Help tanks I did not have time to read what the buff did.. but helps.
-Scroll of Protect V
- +30 Stamina food
-As well as PW-Fort, GotW, etc.
-If you can get a Pally in the group for (+Defense that'll help) and the Blessing of light?

Keeping Shield block on CD, T. Clap and Demo shout (which I handled) and making sure no DPS got even 1% more threat than the tank, but still dps'ing the heck out of him. All help.

I did not tank him, but even without Shield Wall we got him on the 2nd go around (I'm thinking all the stuff I gave him helped) XD That, and the fact that we did not get unlucky with DPS unbuffs prolly helped a lot XD

Oh yeah, looking at your defense stats... you really could use more Dodge and Parry. I think my Dodge is 21%? parry 17% Block 21?% I only have 4 epics XD.

Keepers of Time Head enchant for +dodge/+defense is sooooo hawt.

you can tank prince with those stats.

HOWEVER, your healers must be ready to SPAM heals on you rather than wait until you take damage. It's a much bigger burden on healers than tanks really. It's also very dependant on your dps to be competent and burn him down during this phase ASAP. The whole raid should be ready to pop most of their CD's on phase 2 to survive/burn through it as fast as you can.

Focus on damage reduction debuffs, make sure tclap and demo shout is up ALL the time.

edit: yay armory is working. Drop your defense gems and stack 12 stam gems on all epics you have. Get better trinkets. There is a great on from a quest reward in Netherstorm and the figurine [the exact name escapes me] that gives i think 32 defense? and ~1200 armor on a use.

Your 2 trinkets pretty much suck for your level [and the shield block rating one is much more paladin based]. With the 2 trinkets that I mentioned, you should be sitting at about 520+ defense if you don't regem.

But again, if you're main tanking focus on pure stamina.

Also, re: your shield - Grab the merciless one. It is by far THE BEST maximum health shield until t6 instances. If not, skip prince and do nightbane if you can get him down and just grab the shield from him. It's pretty much identical to the badges one.

get both if you can. the crest of the sha'tar can be gemmed to be superior to the coldarra shield in terms of stam, or if you're good with stam you can gem it for more avoidance. the coldarra shield gives you more armor, def, threat from block value and more base stam, but is nowhere near as versatile. if you must have only one shield, i would go with the crest.

That would be the Adamantine figurine, dropped from Blackheart the Inciter in S.Labs, good trinket when equipped, not so good when used especially in heroics + raids, the +1200armour isn't really usefully when the heroic + raid trash hits like a truck

You would be referring to Dabiri's Enigma which is a reward from http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=10439, that would be more useful

Yeah, as what russki said, try grab the Merciless Gladiator's Shield when you have already passed the 490 defense mark

A lot of good technique info for Prince so far so I'll just add...
I recommend NOT using Shield Wall for phase 2. Burn Last Stand during Phase 2 if need be, but save that SW for Phase 3. You may have to move thru a meteor dude to reposition Prince. The only way to survive that is SW. Also, if hes down to under 5% just blow SW and sail to the end.

Oh and (I think this may have been mentioned, but I'm too lazy to scroll thru) use all the consumables mentioned above AND keep a Stoneshield/Ironshield Pot up at all times.

Just my opinion, but it worked fer me.

Cheers and good luck!

I appreciate all of the helpful advice you guys are giving. I will do my best to have everything that's been mentioned next time we fight Prince.
