Paladin + HunterFollow

I've got a question. I was playing a paladin quite a big amount of time and always used retribution build. Now I wish to start another character, but am going to play together with a hunter, which is going to become a BM, using a 41/20/0 build. What build should I choose to make our party mostly effective?

Well.... I guess Ret still to help kill things faster with your buddy's pet tanking. Just throw out some heals to keep it alive if you need to, though your buddy can heal him up just fine.

OR you can go prot and your Buddy and his pet are the dpsers in the group, though you won't have anyone healing you but yourself. I guess it just depends on what strategy you want to do with your buddy. If his pet is going to be the tank, then you should go ret. If you are going to be the tank, then you should go prot. Holy doesn't seem very useful unless you like sitting on the sidelines doing nothing except occasionally healing his pet.

Oh.. Thanks =) Think I need to discuss some tactics moments with him..

the way i see it, the hunter will roughly do the same dps regardless of wether or not your going to tank or not.

on the other hand, a pally will have a huge difference in DPS.

i would let the pet tank, as the only real diffence for the hunter is wether or not growl is on, and you spec ret for DPS.

the hunter should be able to keep his pet alive better then you can keep your self alive if your tanking. and you can help keep his pet alive, where as he cant help keep you alive.

all in all, the pet acting as the tank has far more benefits then any other set up.

and the fact that he she is going BM will make the pet all the better tank. mostly because of agro stuff.

im working on a hunter right now actually. and my cat, a dps pet not really a tank pet, tanks her way through some rough encounters just fine.

In the early levels (pre-50odd), go ret and be the tank while the hunter DPS's. Going prot would be overkill if you are just trying to hold aggro from 1 person, and you would constantly pull aggro from his pet with your crits anyway.

And you don't want to be stuck levelling prot the times that he isn't online...

Leveling prot is one of the quickest ways for a Paladin to level via AoE grinding.

Agreed, Prot is best way to level from mid-game onward. Ret is still the best for early in the game.

Well.. it might be close now. Prot was probably the best pre-2.3, but with the increase in experience from quests, ret can also be pretty fast if you know what you're doing.

Sorry Bud, completely disagree. I completed 8 quests (ya 8) in hinterlands in just under 40 minutes using Ret. I finished the rest of the quest (about 22 total) in about 3-4 hours. I litterally dung 4 times in 1 day... lol dung.

I actually just switched back to Prot (at 48) to start tanking ZF and ST. I can't imagine how AE grinding can compare to questing... 2.3 changed a lot of things.

Prot AoE grinding (though SO much fun! really a pity) is --- speed-levelling-wise --- far inferior to questing since patch 2.3. Especially with added quests in Dustwallow Marsh (spelling?).

As for a combo levelling with a hunter? Just go Ret as suggested in the other posts here. Things will go down like crazy and some pets make very nice tanks.

Hi again. Our plans have changed a bit. My friend has decided to use survival build. So, her (it's a girl =)) pet will make less damage and will have less defence, but hunter by himself will be stronger. So which build to use me then? Still ret, or better prot?

Bummer on her decision... beastmaster leveling is the easiest way to level in the game (outside of being an affliction lock... and maybe even there too). If you're ret, I think you'll pull aggro off her pet and end up being the primary dps. From what I have seen (which really isn't a lot), ret tends to be more spikey.

With her being a survival hunter, you may want to be prot to be a 'tank' in your quests, as her pet won't be able to handle hard mobs without dying/pulling aggro from healing.

My 1.5 cents... maybe someday I'll graduate to 2 cents...

Pet should still be able to tank reasonably well, and honestly, it's not like quests are hard anymore unless they go into instances. Just go ret, it'll speed up your leveling so much more.
#14 Dec 17 2007 at 12:19 PM Rating: Decent
So.. Ret right? Without combining with Holy or prot?
#15 Dec 17 2007 at 12:27 PM Rating: Good
Well... that's up to you. Definately ret gear and playstyle, but if you want you can go a bit into holy to grab some of the healing talents like SF. First you should grab SoC as fast as you can, then go down holy to Spiritual Focus. After that, it's up to you and I think you'll be able to make your own decisions. If you feel that more healing power is necessary, keep going down holy. If you want to crank out a bit more dps, go down ret.

Umm. I see. Thank you very much. And one more question =)
(I know that I look like a noob, but just want to know some professional oppinion)
What is better, two-handed or one-handed and shield?
#17 Dec 17 2007 at 12:36 PM Rating: Good
Two-handed, and a slow two-hander as well. The slower it is, the more damage you will get out of SoC.
#18 Dec 17 2007 at 12:38 PM Rating: Decent
OK. Thank you very much for your patience =)

No problem, I've got nothing better to do, so here I am.
