Need help with lock buildFollow

#1 Dec 10 2007 at 6:03 AM Rating: Decent
Hello, let me start off by saying the I am in no way, shape or form saying I am any good at playing a lock (yet). I had him as Demon spec until I started to read some of the input on this forum about specing to Affliction. My question is this, what is the best spec to be for max damage? I am currently lvl 43 (44 later today I'm sure). I am only doing PvE at the moment but once I get to 60+ I plan on doing PvP. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

All specs can put out great damage, it just depends on your playstyle.

I think that since you're too low for the felguard, affliction is your best choice for leveling. Once you hit 50 and can get the felquard demonology is a much more viable spec for quick leveling. That felguard can hold aggro very well. I personally prefer affliction though as that's what I'm best at (affliction based from lvl 10-60 and from 63-70. I tried to dabble in destruction once I hit 60 for awhile, but when back to affliction because there is less downtime.

I pretty much agree with lathais. Decide if you want to run around doting everything (affliction),send in felguard with some dots (demonology),or act like a mage (destruction). Each one has it's strengths along with weaknesses. Affliction pvp wise, You got 3 instant cast damage dots,Instant Howl of terror, dark pact to keep mana coming to you,You can kite with this build as well with Curse of exhaustion and the unstable affliction which pretty much protects your other dots from being dispelled apart from it's damage. Demonology can offer a few things to.That felguard is pretty awesome! If used really well, you can get to the top of hk andmost damage done 61-69 bracket,70 bracket you drop down a bit but the output is great!!Apart from that you'll have soul link which offers you more survivalbility. Also, you'll get the perks if you gone full demonology when having a demon out offering, increased damage, resistances, more DR depending which demon you have out. Now destruction I am not really familiar with..Basically think of fire mage. But like Lathais said..all have great damage output. Decide how you want to play your lock.

Destruction spec here, and while I love the damage output come 60+, you drain mana very quickly, that's the only major problem I have with the spec. I have a very hard time complaining about 3k crits with Soul Fire at lvl 63. However, like many others say, it depends on your play style. I just prefer dest.

I am at lvl 50 and have tried all three now. I believe Destruction has the most DPS out of the three, but it is all burst dmg, which means more mana consumption. With demo you just sit back and send your felguard in. While he does a lot of dmg, it is no where near the crits you get with Dest. You will have a lot of downtime though. After trying dest for 5 lvls or so, i ended up switching back to afflic at lvl 50. It does a lot of dmg output and you save a ton of mana.

Ok, from all the posts, Affliction is the way to go for a while, NOW - how should I spread my points out in affliction? I am 43 ATM so where should the points go and future points? Thsnks again for all the great input and help! A lot better group of people than in the Rogue Forums! There, they like to insult and degrade people for asking questions about the class.

Go aff to unstable affliction, then go 5\5 demonic embrace, then put 11 in destruction to get shadowburn.

So if Affliction the way to go for PvP or is there another Spec that is more benefical in this part of the game? Can someone link me the talent tree of the best PvP/Arena please.

Edit your posts please, most forums frown upon double posting. These guys seem to be more lenient, but it's still pretty irritating.

SL/SL: Primary pre-2.3 PvP build, Siphon Life/Soul Link

iHoT: Instant Howl of Terror, obtained by putting two points in to Improved Howl of Terror.
