Shield slam and crit %Follow

#1 Dec 09 2007 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
The other day I was wondering how it would work if you had shield slam and the polaxe specialization, and you had an axe equipped. Would your chance to crit with shield slam go up as well? I know there are several different talents that could possibly apply, such as the one that gives a % chance to hit, precision I think. Anyways, does anyone know how these affect the chance to crit with shield slam?

well... to be honest i think it would in fact affect your shield slams, but that it really wouldn't matter.

there's about the only build i could come up with where it *might* matter... but there are arguably better builds out there for any given situation.

if you've got a specific gear set and talent build in mind you'd probably get a better answer.

Yeah, your Mainhand damage factors affect your shield slam.

So if your disarmed, your unarmed skill is what you use to hit/crit with shield slam.

If you are ax spec and wielding an ax, you'll get the 1-5% to crit for it.

Yes precision affects shield slam just like it affects every melee attack.

They just patched so taunt use's hit rating, and I think this means that all of our shouts are affected by hit rating now too. Instead of spell hit rating.

I wasn't aware that unarmed skill affected my chances to hit/crit with Shield Slam...nice bit of info there Devioususer.

So in order to get the most benefit out of Shield Slam I need to have my unarmed skill maxed out? I sure hope I'm reading this incorrectly because I really don't want to go out and punch stuff to death just to level up my neglected unarmed skill.

no, this is only if your MH wep is disarmed.... then you would be using unarmed skill to determine shield slam's accuracy.

Ahhhh thanks for the clarification. I now see that Devioususer specified that in his post. I must have had a mental hiccup there.

To be honest, I instinctively do a Shield Slam every time I get disarmed. So it may not be a bad idea for me to grab a couple fist weapons and go beat on some low level elite mobs. It's time for another SM weapon training run.

While it's true that unarmed skill affects Shield Slam only when you're disarmed, I think it's still something worth leveling up. Get yourself some int buffs and a fist weapon and go kill some stuff for 30-40 minutes to max it out.

I know there aren't that many situations where you'll find yourself disarmed, but it's nice to know that you can still generate some decent threat when you are. Disarm effect typically only last 3-6 seconds, during which time you can TC, Shield Slam, Shield Bash, and/or Demo Shout to keep your threat up.

Well worth it IMO.
