Which is easier to lvl? Lock
Which is more useful in pvp? Mage
which is more useful in endgame? Lock

In my humble opinion.

i must disagree on the pvp thing. lock owns!

some leveling can be done very very effective aoe grinding with the mage.

you better find that out for yourself, but instead of starting new characters all the time you might want to have one at level 70, because this is where alot of the game-contet lies.
This will also probably help you decide on what character to level next.

Correct me if i'm wrong but he asked "Which is more useful in pvp?"

key word USEFUL, not who owns more.

And I agree Mages are more USEFUL in pvp

Personally I reccomend a mage.

Everyone and their mom is a lock now.

It's the burst damage Oaken. 'Locks are fantastic, but I think I personally would prefer to be a mage in PvP. In everything else, gimme a 'lock.

Hence, I'm a 'lock. (and a warrior on my alt)

Rule #1 in choosing a class: THERE IS NO "BEST CLASS"

I have seen some mages level fast and some level slow. Ditto for warlocks. It's the player that makes the difference.

I don't PvP, so I'll defer that to someone who does.

Both classes are useful in endgame. Each class brings its unique abilities to a group environment. I can't even conceive trying to go into a raid without some of both classes.

My advice: Play both to level 20, then decide for yourself.

I think if you can master a mage, it's pretty dang impressive in leveling as well. I've seen mages take on 5-6 even level mobs and just destroy them without being touched. Warlocks can do this as well, but we have a pet to help us out.

here are all my basic OPINIONS.

Mage = faster lvling, harder to play, potentially best pve damage, great pvp
Lock = fast lvling but not as fast as mage, not very hard to master, great pve, potentially best pvp.

and all these OPINIONS heavily vary through spec.

What ever happened to question number 4, which is the most fun to play? It's always about lvling quickly, the class that will be invited to groups more often, which one owns in pvp.

Personally, I'd take a class that sucked in all these catagories if I had more fun playing it. But I guess that's just me.

If your taking it to endgame, the only answer is which one your going to find the most fun to play. No sense wasting your time on a clas your not going to like just becasue it might be more useful in a certain circumstance.

If your not sure you can lvl both for a bit to see which is more fun. As far as PvP and Endgame depending on how each is used there both will rank high on the dps charts. Most raids and 5 mans ive been on its usually a fight between the two to be on the top of the charts.

As for leving the lock as a distinct advantge in PvE. With his minion and fear locking they can easily take on multple mobs with little trouble and grind out quests and level. Dont get me wrong a mage is good too but will have alot more downtime from their mana pools not being able to keep up.

Warlock is by far one of the easiest classes to level. A Mage just fights, drink, fight, drink, forever. Any lock with a common sense to play his class and is specced Affliction can just about go forever without drinking.

Locks are very sexy in PvP, and so are Mages. But there is no "better" class in PvP. For example: a Warlock can die easily to a fury warrior, but to a Mage (especially frost mage) Warriors are simple and very easy to kill.

Each class has their own contribution to a raid. Warlocks offer Healthstones and Soulstones, Mages give water and Arcane Intellect.

P.S.

Be sure to use the guides in my sig for faster leveling.
