Fishing, eh, to hell with that. I don't have the patience for it. In the time it would take to me fish up two primal waters, I could've farmed four off the lake outside Shat.
My mains a very geared warlock, about the 2nd fastest farming class in the game besides hunters. My 3 instant dots will drop a water elemental in skettis, and I can chain pull 5-6 of them and drain tank through the damage and repeat it all again. The only thing that slows me down is swim speed.
With that said I can still fish up primal waters at an incredible rate in the elemental plateau when the pools are there. I've seen at times 6 pure water pools (3 at a time with respawns when I finished the first 3). These average out to 2 primal waters much faster then I can grind them. I gotta say its really handy having fishing for situations like that. Especially with the new track fishing its great. Every highland mixed school in skettis is worth 3-7g average, I pull tons of the highest level agility scrolls which the rogues gobble up for 2g a piece. The best part is it takes under 2 minutes to fish up a pool. Its a nice gathering skill to have.
But....I don't have cooking/fishing on my mage. I like having maxed out fishing on my warlock, but when I rerolled on another server I didn't want to do the grind again (fishing, that is). Leveling it
was boring for me. But I'm taking a rogue to 70 on that server, and his fishing/cooking is pretty well capped for his level. So he'll be my cooking/fishing/mining character.
As for skullfish vs. basilisk, I'd probably stack the spell damage. Spell damage is generally worth more then crit on a 1:1 scale, you'd probably want 1.4:1 crit/damage for crit to be worth more then damage. Unless you're really low on crit I'd probably use the 23 spell damage food all the time instead of 20 spell crit.
