Well, liking the look of your character has its goods and its bads.
If you go Undead, everything is tattered anyway, so gear appearance seems less important (And more appropriate if it IS ragged). However, I have a BE, and I have been known to pay way more for an extremely minor upgrade because the piece looks better (and I mean a few additional Sta/Int/Whatever, scaling with levels).
I have also passed up clearly superior pieces because they look terrible.
But, it also drives me to aim for a higher goal sometimes. While X piece of gear is easy to obtain, I may put in a lot of work for Y because it looks better.
I like to play a character that looks good. Sometimes you just have to accept that that is impossible (like leveling in OLs when that drop is the Uber Pink Bikini of Death to your Foes).
[EDIT]
Just to add, all 3 Warlock Races for the Horde do have good racials. The Forsaken have two very strong ones (although one is more specialized) the other classes are great too.
When fighting an enemy that likes their range, Mana Tap is always useful if the fight is long, or your opponenet is a Druid/Shammy/Pally that can go oom easy as is. And, in a BG, you often find yourself running through a crowd or next to an enemy in a tunnel. The AoE Silence effect is great (even if the mana is mostly negligible.)
I don't have any experience with Orcs, but more DpS and fewer stuns makes for an appealing package (if I didn't hate the look of Orcs in caster gear.) And Demo locks will love the extra 5% DpS, which couls be up to an extra 2.5% overall DpS boost depending on the percentage of pet contribution (as far as I know, it is rarely above 50% of the total damage dealt, if you are playing it correctly.) Add in that Bloodlust can boost the Warlock DpS (and thus influences the Pet DpS as well), you have a great deal.
So, all in all, pick what you love to play. In the long run, a racial shouldn't make or break the game.
