Fury Warrior / BlacksmithingFollow

Hey all
I was wondering what would be the best weapon type to specialize in if I plan on raiding as a fury warrior. From my experience on my main (holy pally) it seems that most end-game warriors tend to go sword spec (this comes from my experience in Gruuls, TK, Kara). Any help would be great.

For Fury? Mace, by far.

Mace proc is superior for straight DPS values than the extra hit, agi, crit or AP that the other two have.

13.4% haste is awesome.

Mace. Unless you meant 2H fury, in which case, sword.

Wow, this is a revelation ... I got myself a Planar Edge and have been main handing that with the S1 off hand recently, but now you guys say (pretty much unanimously) that the mace is a better option than axe.

Gonna start farming nethers to get the Black Planar edge soon ... now switching to Hammersmith and spending a lot of time and money to go Mace only appeals to me if you guys are adamant that Mace is by far better than the Axe.

It would help ... as I have a Nice Thunder sitting in the bank from when I was Mace a little earlier (for PvP purposes) ... it wouldn't just be gathering dust there, but as I say ... that's a rather large investment when I already have the Axe.

Bear in mind that our guild is not looking at progressing past Kara any time soon (probably never ... we like being small and cosy) .. so access to +haste gear and uber off hand maces to compliment the MH is not in the equation.

There's no real reason for the offhand type to matter, but the Mace line is easily the best of the 1H weapons you can get from Blacksmithing. Compliment it with a S1/PvP weapon (or even Decap or Fool's Bane) and go to town.

the axe is nice. it has crit and ap. it's slow. it's a good 2nd for pure pve dps.

Fools bane, decapitator, etc... all nicely compliment the mace or axe. But it really shouldn't matter if your OH is a mace, sword, fist or axe. As long as it's not a dagger...

As for specs dealing the most damage pure and simply, sword is better. But that is just on a pure spec level, not a itemization level for a profession.

17/44/0 builds do not rely on having the same type of weapon in mh/oh. But racials, like orc or human, do tend to support having a axe/axe or sword/mace combo.

Ok, sorry about this ... but it's seriously taking me a while to get my pea-sized mind wrapped around this.

Are you guys seriously saying that the proc which would give 13.44% increase in attack speed for 10 seconds comfortably outweighs 1% crit chance and 44 attack power (Comparing Black Planar Edge and Dragonmaw here)

Both of you are saying so quite adamantly, and I am seriously not in a position to question you ... it just seems to defy logic .. I mean is haste THAT much more important that the stats (which, let's be honest, are pretty ok).

All that aside .. I would imagine that the best enchant (based on the fact that we're going for the haste improvement) would be Mongoose. Lol ... feel free to blow me out of the water again with a counter-suggestion.

Lastly... any idea how often the haste proc goes off. I would imagine it's ppm, but how many times per minute will allow me to put a few calculations together and get my mind wrapped around some cold hard numbers.

*edit*
btw, forget my comment about oh weapon type .. I realised after the fact that I was spewing junk !

Let me put it this way; the first upgrade from the Tier 3 Smithing Mace is off Illidan, and it's the Warglaive of Azzinoth. The Haste Proc outweighs (or is at least equal to) the much better set of stats on Rising Tide or the Syphon of the Natherizim proc, much less anything weaker.

It's a haste proc for 10 seconds that's got 2 PPM, so even ignoring instant attacks it works out to 70 Haste Rating as a passive, or ~4.5% haste. In actual use it's up considerably more than that because it can proc off Bloodthirst and Whirlwind, so it works out to a really superior weapon.

it was goose for MH until executioner came out... 849/~7000 (mob armor value iirc) = 12% armor reduction, add that to the 49 armor piercing on s3 gear x6 plus 2600 armor reduction from 5 sunders = 3743/~7000 = >50% dps increase. really rough math that i may be pulling out of my *** but i'm sure someone here can correct me.

Ok, you've convinced me ... I'll start gathering mats for the Drakefist, go back to Hammersmith and put my Planar Edge back in the bank.

I have 1 Nether already ... so 7 more to go for T2.

If I look at it logically ... the mats are actually the easiest to obtain out of the 3 ... but it's still going to be an "Epic" mat chase ;-)

Oh, and it really looks kickass ;-)
