From what i've heard AoE grinding spots kinda thin out, is this true?

Not really, there's a lot of stuff to grind for rep items and whatnot at various levels. Also, while the quest reward gear is pretty good, the instance gear is better and, right or wrong, you'll probably have an easier time getting groups as a tank than a DPS paladin.

I was prot through all of outland and it was pretty great, though it'd been a long time since I was ret so I guess I can't honestly give you a comparison.

QFT.

At least on my server, DPS'ers are a dime a dozen while tanks and healers are in high demand. In addition to that, you also have to deal with the stigma of Retribution generally performing poorly, so... even if a party does already have a tank, given the choice of any other DPS'er they will likely pass you up unless any of them have run with you before and you've proven yourself a superior player.

it really depends on you a lot. if you've been enjoying prot i don't think that there's any reason to change. on my sever dps is 'a dime a dozen' as has been said, healers are actually pretty common, but tanks... tanks are the rare find that the 2 or 3 groups in lfg always are competing for. i've never had a problem as either holy or ret to get groups,, but i have had many a long wait for a tank.

secondly, i have noticed that ret is apparently difficult to figure out. i've seen only a few that have impressed me.. besides myself of course ;) if you are going to respec ret be sure to get as complete a ret set as possible first. ret dps with prot gear is prolly gonna be less than prot dps almost... definitely won't make you popular in groups.
