LvL 35 AoEFollow

#1 Dec 08 2007 at 12:19 AM Rating: Decent
Im new to aoe so ive used this site to better my knowledge of the subject

So far i feel i have the concept down...as of now im aoeing in go'shek in arathi highlands...i do alright but am only averaging about 20k/hr, if that

my questions are:

1. Can i get more exp with what im doing? Obviously i dont have SoW for increased mana...so my gameplan is to pull a mob with JoL and when i have 5 or so around i pull up SoL, kill mob with the judge, then JoL, pull up SoL again and so on...is this an efficent method?

2. I feel if i could cast consecration more often i could kill more efficiently but my mana depletes so rapidly...is BoSanc worth the extra damage or should i switch to BoW for the increased mana until i can get SoW

3. Also, im up for criticism, again im new to aoe grinding with pally so any helpful posts would be appreciated

by the way, im specced prot all the way...

The Blessing of sanctuary will be a good chunk of your damage output due to the lowered incoming damage as well as the extra damage from shield blocks. Prot Pally really is a combo of things to work effectively. BoS, J/SoL/W, Reckoning, and most importantly a shield spike.

Between Judgment and seals of light and wisdom, you should be ok w/o using the Blessing of Wisdom as well. If you alternate(maybe not 1:1 but whatever you feel comfortable with during that fight), you should end up with a decent amount of health and mana left over. If things do get hairy, you can always bubble and bandage/heal/whatever but usually Prot Pally's can usually end with ~80% mana and health, assuming of course not over hunting to badly, elite, ect.

As for grinding itself, When I had 5+ mobs on me, if I did not have a mob dead before I reached the 8 second marker of my Seal of Light/Wisdom, I tabbed over to the next mob and judged that one and continued on my fight there. The reasoning behind this is fairly simple. You are still being hit which means more damage from your shield spike, from Sanctuary, and from your retribution aura. Also, with that one remaining(and most likely low on health, that mob will most likely kill itself on top of assisting you in procing your Reckoning.

When I grinded I only used Consecration once, *maybe* twice a battle, because it is very mana intensive. You'll find things begin to really speed up when you get Holy Shield. With Holy shield up, you'll be almost constantly blocking, thus causing BoS, Shield Spike, Retribution Aura, and Holy Shield damage all in one block.

Here is a pretty good guide to an AE Pally: forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=67158029&sid=1

*edit: had to clarify a couple things

Or you could do what i do, which is spam consecrations and holy shields like there's no tomorrow. There's bigger downtime, and you will have to carry around a fair bunch of drinks, but you'll take down the mobs much much quicker, and admit it, everyone likes seeing loads of little yellow numbers all over the place. Teaming with a mage for this is magic though, he can supply you with drinks and you can supply him with an opportunity to put out his AoEs.

I'd suggest getting a damage meter (Damagemeters...or SWstats..or something like that)..then check out what does the most damage when aoe grinding..and see what does the least..if BoSanc is at the top..I say push through till you get JoW...using boSanc...but if its down there in the bottom two damages..when aoe grinding..then feel free to use BoW instead.

P.S. I'd actually try out BoW either way...it could easily out dps BoSanc over time allowing more consecretions....but hmm..just try it out for a few pulls...see if it seems that big of a difference.

Often I forget to renew BoSanc when I can't gather a group, but I have to disagree with BoW. From what I see right now, rank one Proc from BoW gives back around 30 mana. Each tick from BoW at that level gives back 35. On top of that, you lose 21 dmg/block if you don't have BoSanc on.

Also OP, you might want to try using down ranked consecrate, less strain on mana.

On a side note, you should go to Dustwallow and train on the Murlocs. You've outgrown the farms in Arathi, maybe that explains it.

ok correct me if i'm wrong here but BOW is well at my lvl 25 mana over 5 sec. and i belive that is while your not casting. sooo..

say you cast your aoe instanct cast 8 sec over time damage. and it takes 5 sec after you cast a spell to start your mana regen so while aoe is ticking down you only have 3 sec of really bow mana regen so 15 mana over those 3 sec (25/5=5mana a sec). my aoe atm cost over 175 mana think its closer to 250.
now we will go with 195 mana for easy math. so you get 15 mana from bow if your chain doing aoe. so to get enough mana for 1 more aoe it would be 13 cast if your chain doing them. 195/15=13. but thats only if chain doing them if your not chain yes you will get more mana inbetween and make bow alittle better.

but also take in the fact while your running BOW and not BOSant. your takeing mroe damage since you should be takeing at a min 5 mobs. so not only are you barly getting mana from BOW. and your now haveing to bubble more and heal. since we know your NOT healing with out bubbling since you cant block while casting.

so as i see it it looks like bow is for the birds, when aoe grinding. only time i even think of it is when i'm running lower lvl stuff like dm or sfk where block aint big deal since my aoe will pretty much kill all the mobs there in 8 sec anyways. but for lvling i would highly recomend staying with BOSant.

please those with more experance point out flaws if i'm wrong on anything there.

well dustwallow is nice and all, too bad murlocs run and you cant kill them in time before they run off to get 3 more mobs or, for whatever reason, youre in the middle of battle with mobs and they retreat out of nowhere and evade.

guess i need pointers and tips, so lets here them guys.

Runners are a good thing when you're just grinding. It saves time for you to go get them personally. Don't waste too much mana on Consecrate, with enough guys hitting you, Redoubt should make sure you stay topped in terms of HP.
