Hello fellow priests of the dark side, I've looking to upgrade my gear and was seeking ideas on specific pieces. I need to keep increasing my plus shadow. My guild is in Kara, but we haven't advanced past Curator yet.

Right now I'm 6 badges away from the Carved Witch Doctor Wand or Orb of the Soul Eater...I think i'll get Soul eater.

If you have some time take a look and give me your thoughts!

(oh and check out my deserter buff too from pvp)

Get the spellstrike pants to go with your helm. They will provide you with a nice bit of +hit and the set bonus procs quite often. Also I'd suggest your pick up the orb of the soul-eater before you get the wand. It's a far bigger upgrade and you won't replace it. You can get the Nether-Core control rod (for some hit) or the Black Stalk (for more damage + crit) as fillers till you get more badges.

I would suggest picking up a Girdle of Ruination for some more damage, however it's not entirely necessary. Replace your Kara ring with the Seal of the Exorcist, only a slight damage upgrade, but it has 12 hit which will free up more of your gem slots.

Regem your gear. All of it. You don't need +stamina gems. I would suggest dropping +7's in all your gear and then slowly upgrading to +9s as you get more money. You'll also want to rework your enchants, but prioritize everything: Gear, Gems, Enchants should be the way you look to upgrade.

Hope that was somewhat helpful :p

Electricwiz,

Thanks for your help! That was good direction. Daimonic you may want to start your own thread if you want your gear check instead of on mine though, just a suggestion.

Thought of two other questions:

1. Should I still get Spellstrike Pants or just wait for Trial Fire Trousers to drop?

2. I was looking at my Frozen Shadoweave Boots. I also looked at another guy's armory. He had 2 red plus 9 dmg gems in his. I have only one red spot and a blue...did they change the slots or am I missing something?

1.Imo spellstrike..the set bonus! Awesome.

2. You can put a red gem in a blue socket you just wont get the set bonus from the combined gems. He probably just put in 2 red.

1. You can get the trial-fire trousers if you like as the damage is comparable, however with the added bonuses (hit rating, critical strike rating and the set bonus) I believe the spellstrike would server you better.

2. You're missing something very important. (for example) FSW has A red and blue socket. However, you can put ANY color gem into ANY socket no matter what. Socket colors are strictly if you decided you want to get the set bonus. That being said, for shadow priests, you're better off putting straight +damage gems in every single socket rather than trying to coordinate a socket bonus.

As already said, get the spellstrike pants. Enchant your weapon. Get a shoulder enchant and a head enchant. Get new trinkets, icon of the silver crescent and the one you can get through honor hold marks to start. Run heroics to get Quag's eye. Replace +stam gems with +dmg gems. :D

Regem all non-hit gems to +9dmg (and replace the +hit gems as soon as you can, 76 hit rating with 5/5 Shadow Focus is hit cap).

Enchant your helm (revered with Sha'tar), shoulders (honored/exalted Aldor, OR exalted Scryers - the honored Scryers one sucks), and boots (Vitality or Boar's Speed).

Helm - Grab the one off Hex Lord to replace Spellstrike once you get there. With that in mind, you may want to grab Trial-Fire if no one else wants them for after you break the set bonus, or possibly ignore Spellstrike Pants all together *if* you'll the helm quickly.
Neck - The Kara trash one. If you have absolutely abysmally drops on that, go for the PvP one with +9dmg gem.
Cloak - Personally I like the one from Prince (Ruby Drape of the Mysticant) because it trades very little +dmg for extra stats and a hefty chunk of hit. Otherwise, the one from Moroes.
Bracers - Vindicator's Dreadweave, +9dmg gem, +15dmg enchant
Hands - Studious Wraps, 60 Badges, 2 +9dmg gems, +20dmg enchant
Belt - Girdle of Ruination, or for a cheaper alternative, the belt off the last boss in heroic mana-tombs. If you're sitting in cash, get Belt of Blasting made, it's the second-belt belt until Sunwell, but will cost you quite a bit.
Legs - Spellstrike is better than Trial-Fire, though not by a whole lot, and only with the set bonus. Alternatively, get into a PuG Doom Lord Kazzak and get those pants off him, but with the Spellstrike set you're best going after those. Get the Runic Spellthread on whatever you get.
Rings - Grab the one from Heroic Mana-Tombs to replace the Kara one you have now. Then replace the two (identical) ones you have with the ones from ZA.
Trinkets - Icon of the Silver Crescent, Darkmoon Card: Crusade, and eventually Hex Shrunken Head. Grab the cheap PvP one (15 marks) in Zangarmarsh to replace the Vengeance trinket.
Weapon - Merciless or Vengeful Glad's are best. If not, then I'd hold out for the mace or dager from ZA. Get Soulfrost on it.
Offhand - Orb of the Soul-Eater.
Wand - Carved Witch Doctor's Stick (which looks @#%^ing awesome in the next patch!)

Once you hit ZA and 25-mans, be sure to pop a Flask of Pure Death, keep 8 stacks of mana pots on you, a stack of damage food, and a few Superior Wizard Oils as well. I'd also suggest stocking up on gems and enchanting mats and then bringing them with you so that you can gem/enchant new items immediately after getting them.

Just a quick note on the studious wraps. If you drop a Runed living ruby (+9 damage) and a Royal Nightseye (+5 damage/+6 stamina) you'll get the set bonus (+4 damage) which ends up giving you a free 60hp while losing zero damage over a +9

just one of the rare times a set bonus is actually worth taking
