Warlock on a PvP serverFollow

#1 Dec 06 2007 at 4:35 PM Rating: Decent
Hey guys,

I'm taking a little break from my main (a hunter) and rolling a new char tonight. I think I am going to go with the lock since I love pet classes...

My question is...

What pet should I use while leveling on a PvP server. The last time I played a lock, I got to about level 38 and most of the time I used my voidwalker. But, this time I am going to be on a PvP server and the big blue guy isn't going to do much in the form of damage when I'm jumped. Which is the best demon to leave out while soloing?

Also, what about talents? I usually went affliction because I used DoTs a lot. What is a good talent tree to go after in a PvP environment? I want to level fast but also be able to stand my grand in the wild.

It's def going to be different wearing cloth, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Thanks again for any replys.

I play on a PvP server and used my VW almost exclusively until I was level 40. Personally, I always found that if I was jumped by a higher levl (5+ levels up) there was little I could do except fear and run. But anyone lower than that was easy to beat. Just sac the VW and that was always enough for me to win.

I find leveling with the Succy to be slower and more inefficeint. The imp worked well for me also, but not until higher level for dark pact. By the time you level to the 30's if specced demo you could always just quickly summon the appropriate pet.

Before then stick with the VW and level as affliction. Never pausing FTW.

It really depends on your play style. If you Drain Hunt, VW is still perfectly acceptable to have out, since you can sac him for the bubble and either kill or run. If you Drain Tank then yeah, keep the Succubus or Felhound out until you get Dark Pact, and only use Voidy for those tough fights.

the funny thing as a warlock on a pvp server, often people won´t feel the urge to attack you^^

I noticed that alot too. People see me and they run. I always just thought it was because I always duo with a hunter, so they see both of us and run.

I tend to keep the Void out. If I need to try to get away, I can sac the blueberry and run like crazy.

Having a 51 BE warlock on a PvP server I nearly always have the VW out. Ole Gorg keeps everything at bay (for the most part) and the only real trouble I have is gnome mages (for some weird reason). Still haven't gotten the hang of using the succubus...the dang thing just annoys the crap outta me. But, the VW is always a good tank and holds aggro with nearly everything. In fact, now that I've got a Felguard I'm wondering what's so great about him. In comparison, (at the moment anyway), Big Blue holds aggro and does more damage than the big dude with that scary axe. I find that odd, but I'm hoping the Guard will get better with leveling. (crosses fingers)

If you find yourself headed into a situation with several magic-users, the Felhunter is great. But, you have to know before-hand. (as in BG's) After lvl 40, the Felhunter comes in mighty handy with those mages.

Felguard gets much better. I respecced at 56 because by then he has most of his moves. He gets a passive ability that lowers the enemy's defense by 5% every hit and can stack up to 50%. It's like having my on warrior.

I used my void until level 50 when 1 dot was enough to pull aggro off him so I stopped bothering. I then leveled from 50-60 with my fel puppy out mainly for the stealth detection stuff (I play on a PvP server so rogues love to gank), but I leveled to 60 pre-41 point talents. If I had to do it over again, I would most likely go 1-50 with void out then go felguard the rest of the way.

Non demo warlocks will want their fel hunter out. Demo warlocks will want their fel guard out.

Well, I've made it to 53 and got a few grims for my Guard. I was surprised by how he seemed to get much better. I managed Sunken Temple with him (most of the way) and I MUST say he's a much better tank than old Blue. Now, for the past 2 levels, I haven't even used anything but the Guard. He's truthfully a lot better than I gave him credit for. LOL Yes, he -does- get better and now I'm beginning to wonder why I have the other minions. :ahem: I'm sure people will tell me that there's a spell for everything and a specific minion for the specific occasion/enemy. All true. Trouble is, choosing the right one at the right time and having enough time to summon him. I haven't had a chance to do any BG's with the Guard, but I daresay that he'll be a definite plus in that situation. Of course I'm probably wrong, but then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. ;)
