So I'm about to hit lvl 48 and my plan right now is to switch from enhancement to elemental at lvl 60. I figure this way I will have 10 levels to learn to play and to collect gear for it until lvl 70. Is this a good move or should I respec at 50? My guild already has 2 lvl 70 resto shamans, so I won't really need to go resto.

Do you think that the last 10 levels will be enough to learn shaman casting or will I need more experience?

Thank you.

I would say start collecting outlands green casting gear as soon as you start questing there, then respec when you have about 50-60% caster gear in your bags.

It's not hard to play an elemental shaman. Steps to a fight:
1. Spam Lightning Bolt
2. Shock if you don't mind wasting mana
3. Heal if necessary
4. See step 1

It's really not hard you can figure it out on your own if you want. Enhancement is my personal favorite, but Elemental isn't bad.

Also, if you want to melee and put on water shield when low on mana, I recommend putting flametongue on your weapon. It's affected by spell dmg so it's probably more useful to an ele shaman / resto shaman. Good luck!

I did 58-60 doing hellfire quests collecting gear, then did 60-70 as elemental. Wait until outland to do the swap and make sure you have a full set of casting gear ready when you do it or its not going to be a pleasant experience. As for the play style, in 5-mans you're going to be LB LB LB LB LB LB... heal if needed. soloing can be a bit different pull with LB-LB- 1 more if you can do it, flame shock melee with flametongue(it gets you +spl dmg bonus) until dead. There are other ways to do this once you get more and more dmg so the mob doesn't even get to you. Pull LB, frost shock, strafe back, LB, cylce.

I did exactly what you plan to do and I never looked back.

Looking back I wish i had collected some elemental gear before I respecced as has been previously advised in this thread. Even though i wasn't prepared gear-wise, the relatively fast gearing process in Outland (due to great Ele Shammy quest rewards) got me taken care of pretty quick.

I stayed Elemental all through Kara and only respecced to Resto when i entered 25 mans.

You'll find that your guild and PuGs alike will love you if you pick up some healing gear along the way. You can and should be able to main heal every instance on your way to 70 if you put forth a little effort in gathering up a decent healing set.
