New player a bit confused(read the sticky section)Follow

Hello everybody!,
First off i'd like to present my most deepest apologies... you see I am not a native of the english language and you WILL find a few mistakes here and there, wether it would be in the meaning of sentences or simply bad spelling and grammar. Now with that out of the way, to the main reason why I posted...

I just began playing WOW (great game really I was positively surprised) and started a Tauren Druid... Now I have read the sticky post listing various very helpful tips and yet, I felt the urge of obtaining the input of various members of this community.

I just love helping out others, what kind of build would you think would help me achieve that the best? I want to be able to heal yes, but also hold my own in a fight so I can help out a friend for a quest, for example. What worked for you guys/girls? What did you regret not having when you leveled up?

your insight would be VERY much appreciated.

Thank you VERY much

Sincerely

Avethian

P.S: After reading the guide on druids I currently plan to lvl skills like this:11 resto/19/feral and the rest in the last category. What do you think?

I would suggest leveling with the Feral Talents, and keep a set of "healing" gear with you. You can still heal fairly well for most of the leveling process with healing gear, and will be able to hold your own in a fight. Trying to level as resto can be done, it just takes longer to get through. If you are really set on speccing resto while leveling someone else might have better advice. I don't know if leveling at a quick pace is what you want. But good luck, and enjoy the Druid class.

Roland

ps-your english is better than alot of people who have it for a first language :)

Like many (most) others, I would suggest leveling as Feral. It gives you the easiest time soloing, reliable damage output and at lower level it doesn't make a big difference in your healing capabilities.

I'd suggest using a cookie-cutter Feral build, but it's mostly because I've often weighted the pros and cons of all talents and decided what I considered was best in each tier. You'll end up spending points in Resto anyway, and the order in which you fill each tree is up to you. I mostly solo so I like to go all the way down Feral first to get Mangle ASAP. (Which I'm getting in 3 levels on my new Drood :3)

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "the last category". Balance? In my opinion, builds that spread out their talent points too thin in all trees are weaker in all aspects than a specialized build. Classes such as Rogue may find such builds useful, but as a class who is already an hybrid, you're better off specializing in one aspect and choose another to further your specialization or give you some back-up tools.

I can't seem to access the build calculator right now so I'll try to make it later. Or I'm sure someone can do it in my stead.

I actually went the other way with it. I invested rather heavily in balance and then put the remainder into resto. I mainly did this just because I already have a bunch of melee characters. Although I'm only level 50 I haven't had too much difficulty soloing or group healing yet. I admit that I go OOM quite often and probably have to rest between every 4-5 fights. But I'm willing to endure that downtime because I enjoy playing a caster druid.

So definitely play around with feral and balance and find the one which suits your playstyle.

But please listen to Roland and Selverein and:
1)Invest in some resto talents for group play and
2)Pick either feral or balance...not both.

IMHO the druid sticky is probably one of the best on these forums and discusses each individual talent's pros and cons. Be sure to take a look at it before you start spending talent points.

Thank you very much for your insights friends, it is very much appreciated.

Yes the last category was Balance, I just didn't remember at the time and I just wrote down [the other category] lol.

Thank you for the comment on my english, I am constantly trying to improve it, along with my other languages. It is truly marvelous to be able to communicate with such a wide variety of people.

I will follow Roland's advice and go with Feral at the moment, and save some money for respecced later on if unsatisfied.

Greetings and good fortune to you all!

Sincerely

I'll also add my recommendation to spec feral while leveling. I'd take the feral build right out of the sticky; it's cookie cutter for a reason. You may need to change when you hit 70 if you still want to heal but you say you also want to be able to hold your own in a fight and a feral build really gives you so much flexibility.

You can build an extra set of healing gear without spending too much money. When you finish a quest that doesn't have a good reward for your regular gear, pick the option with INT/SPI/Healing on it instead, and keep INT/SPI/healing drops you get off mobs instead of auctioning them off. Just keep that extra gear in your bag to switch to when you want to heal.

I know you read the sticky so probably already know this, but I also just want to add a little encouragement. The class is pretty slow going until level 20 or even 30, but it really pays off after that if you stick with it.

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you very much for the encouragement! Very much appreciated! But don't worry about me... i'm an ex-everquest player (first one) and I can tell you there's nothing as long as leveling up in this darn game lol....So It helped me build patience.

See you inside!!

If you like to help people, there is a distinct lack of not only tanks, but GOOD tanks. By speccing Feral, you can improve how well you can tank in Bear form. Learn to tank and many, many people will appreciate you for it.

Don't bother with Restoration or Balance until you get Mangle.

I'd definitally follow everyones advice and go full Feral until Mangle. From personal experiences Mangle cuts the time to kill a mob in HALF! As Enabler pointed out you also get to preform as a better tank while still being the dps king with the Feral tree.
