Hi there

Wasn't sure whether to post this in professions or here, but decided here since I want fellow droods to read it.

ATM I'm double gathering, Herbs and Leather, for money and such like.

I know the professions have been extensively changed since I last got far into one, and was wondering if Leatherworking is now useful for a feral Druid? I'm fairly well off money wise, for a lvl 30, having shipped money over from my retired 70, so the cash flow is less of an issue.

Oh and which Specialization would I want?

Yes it's useful now :)

For those items, I gave up herbalism and enchanting, and leveled skninning and leatherworking. Got it to 360 in one day and a half.

Now, if anyone says the word "Yeti", I shall have to kill them though.

Got LW to 365 sofar, and with the drums its somewhat useful...not to mention making my own clefthoof set :)

Also, there are some epic recipies at 375 that are not too bad...

oh,and I'll make sure not to mention Yetis in this post...at all. No Yetis here, move along...

You think yeti's are bad?

From 360-375 LW I made Heavy clefthoof boots. About 20 of them. That's 400 Thick Clefthoof Leather. At about a 1/3 drop rate, that's over 1200 clefthoof bulls. Add in that once you get to 375, the best way to make money is with clefthide armor kits, and the number of clefthoof you end up killing reaches well into the multi-thousands.

The Boots of Natural Grace were worth it though.

Ok guys, don't say you didn't ask for it! RAWR!

Thanks for the heads-up, Clefthoof will become the new Yeti. It's ok, they are exctinct on Sentinels now.

Until you get a strong raid set, I think LW is a good deal for druids of all specs. You get some good blue recipes along the way and some nice purple ones at 375 skill.

In regards to which LW specialization to take, Elemental is for Feral Spec. You can make epic Primal Intent set for DPS or blue Heavy Clefthoof set for tanking. Tribal is for Resto/Balance so you can make the epic Windhawk Armor set.

The best part is the 2.3 changes made leveling up your LW a whole lot easier by making the drum patterns a lot more readily available.

Just to clarify, Heavy Clefthoof set is not part of the Elemental specialty. It's a set of three patterns learned from Cenarion Expedition, the boots at friendlty and the chest and pants at honored.

In addition to lowering the rep requirement from Exalted all the way to Honored, from what I understand 2.3 also simplified the mats that go into drums, too. I don't know what they were before exactly, but now they mostly just take leather and other easily-farmable stuff. And of course one of the biggest 2.3 changes that makes LW useful for druids is that we can now use drums in shapeshifted forms to throw out some nice 30-second whole-party "leatherworker buffs."

One thing I would point out is that besides the drums, the only things you can't get crafted for you are the Primalstrike set mentioned already.

However, the [wowitem=29525]Primalstrike Vest[/wowitem] is not as good as the [wowitem=33204]Shadowprowler's Chestguard[/wowitem] which is BOE, craftable and mats cost in the same ballpark.

The [wowitem=29527]Primalstrike Bracers[/wowitem] are not as good as the [wowitem=33881]Vindicator's Dragonhide Bracers[/wowitem] which are very cheap PvP rewards.

The [wowitem=29526]Primalstrike Belt[/wowitem] is only slightly better than the [wowitem=33879]Vindicator's Dragonhide Belt[/wowitem]

On top of this, all can be replaced by new badge of justice items.

In my situation now (where I have replaced my Primalstrike set) I am looking at my options. LW cost me a fortune to level, but there is now only the drums as a reason to keep LW.

I am actually leaning towards herbing. I can land and herb in epic flight form (other classes have to dismount), I spend more time on my druid so I can pick up more herbs just in general play. My druid can kill the bog giants in Zangarmarsh quicker than my current herber - a shadow priest who will probably only ever be in quest reward armor.

I already have a 70 skinner & miner (hunter), jewelcrafter & alchemist (mage) & enchanter (druid), and my 53 priest is already at 375 tailoring so I have many bases covered already. I really only need to consider 2 things. The cost of leveling a profession and the benefit of any BOP type items I can make. Tailoring is of no real use for my druid (I could use the BOP stuff, but I rarely heal and already have +1450 heal). The BOP gems are unique-equipped so it will only make a couple of stat points difference. The mad-alchemist potions are of questionable benefit. Engineering would be fun but would cost me sooo much to level.

But the drums are nice - and if I drop it they might introduce something amazing next patch.....sigh....why can't they let me have 3 professions!
