Tell me if I'm doing this right.

So I finally dinged 40 last night, go me. Got me a pretty pony, threw on a few plate items I got through quests, stuck my talent point in holy shield, and off I went to do some grinding.

Went to the murloc camp in northern Dustwallow, bunch of 36 mobs. I actually died the first time because I had about 10 beating on me at once (haha, whoops).

Anyway, my setup is retribution aura, blessing of sanctuary, thorium spike on Aegis of the Scarlet Commander, and I got about 49% damage mitigation from armor.

Battle goes judge Seal of Light/cast Seal of Wisdom (or reverse if I need life more), cast Holy Shield when it's available, and drop an occasional Consecrate. I'd have about 3-4 Murlocs on me at once, and when they ran, they'd bring a few more over to get beat as well, and eventually get porcupined to death.

I don't use seal of righteousness at all as I'm keeping Wisdom and Light up nonstop to keep life/mana up.

Current weapon is Hand of Righteousness dropped from the SM Armory boss, has nice damage and a little +magic damage as well, but it's a 2.6(ish) speed weapon, wish it was a little faster to use with Reckoning.

I like Consecrate, but it is a BIG mana hog. If I don't use it, I rarely have mana issues, if I do use it, mana goes down fast.

I need more Int gear. The plate items I have have big STR boosts, which are of little value to me, need to find some STA/INT gear out there.

I actually filled 4 bars of XP in about an hour grinding just on murlocs, it was fun.

Anyway, critique is welcome, thanks.

Seems like you got it pretty much down. Using a faster weapon will help you out more with reckoning. Cause the more reckoning hits you get, the more mana and/or health you get back. The spell damage isn't TOO necessary, though it does speed up the process a little. All in all, if you had to choose between a 2.6 speed weap with some +spell on it (like you have) and between a 1.8 speed weap with no +spell on it, it would probably be better to get the faster one.

Anyway, one of the first things you do when you get to an AoE zone is figure out how much you can take at once and just start doing it. I would advise trying not to find mobs that run, cause that can get more annoying than benefecial.

Reason I stuck with that weapon were twofold

1. +spell damage, though it isn't THAT huge, I got a +spell dmg necklace as well, hoping to get more out of each porcupine hit.

2. It was a BIG, and free upgrade from my weapon, which was the 1.7 speed axe from the Stalvan quest in Duskwood, that was getting long in tooth.

While direct weapon damage isn't the biggest priority, this mace hits hard enough to make a difference.

Now, I just gotta find a 2.0 or less speed weapon that does the same :). Need to find some boss drops that have those (maybe a ZF or RFD run is in my future ;))

I agree, sounds like you've got the method down. I also run into problems with Consecrate. The only real suggestion I can make about that is to use it sparingly if your mana is a concern. Maybe only use it at the beginning, or time it at the end of one kill before moving on to the next when you still have three or more on you or something.

CapJack, can you provide any input about the Consecrate mana issue?

Thanks,
Kiragan

One of the rare swords in ZF would be good, they are both pretty good for tanking, though I think I remember one being better.

Here's one of them: [wowitem=9379]Sang'thraze the Deflector[/wowitem]
Here's the other: [wowitem=11086]Jang'thraze the Protector[/wowitem]

Sang'thraze is obviously the better one, the parry rating will help more than the occasional weak bubble. It also hits faster so more procs.

Edit: Fixed up some stuff.

Ummm.... what you said. Don't use it as much if it's an issue, or you can downrank it. It will still do a good amount of damage to everyone, but it won't cost a huge amount of mana.

Now I'm going to have to come back, respec ret, find you and gank you repeatedly. I'll know where you are too since you said you are AoEing lvl 36 murlocs. That won't take too long to find. Muahahaha

psshhh, that's just a typical day in WoW for me :P

Actually, it's kinda funny watching hordies be scared of me now (unless they're ?? level, of course), I just let them go as I'm usually too busy questing.

I had a 44 tauren warrior try to gank my 39 self when I was fighting an fire dragonkin by Mudsprocket last night. At first I thought he was a boss of some sort that I aggro'd, but after I killed him I was like "oh, I just killed a red level ganker, how about that?" :D

Melee attackers just bounce of me now. I love it!

Was he fury? I bet he was fury. I laugh at them to their face when they try to mess with me on my prot. I laughed at pretty much everyone when I was ret at 39 cause I was unstoppable at that level.
