Sweeping Strikes problemsFollow

#1 Dec 04 2007 at 7:41 PM Rating: Decent
I just started playing war... so maybe im doing something wrong. I played a rogue before and am basically comparing blade fury to Sweeping strikes.

Basically, I will have 2 mobs on me. I will pop SS and the second mob takes no damage. This happens about 90% of the time. I called a GM, and low and behold, as soon as they start watching "what im talking about" it works. So I know im using it correctly.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this, or is my warrior a "lemon"? :P

The distance for SS to hit it's second target is narrow. 90' window or cone. It's also got to be within a short distance from the model to the mob.

So if your 2nd target is too much to the side or too far away, it wont hit them. Walking backwards a little to pull the mobs in line in front of you helps. But sometimes the mobs will walk in formation around you. Good rule of thumb is, if you can hit them with a cleave, you can most likely hit them with SS.

Thats the thing tho, I will be able to cleave them, yet SS will still not work. So im super confused, and will probably just spec arms to avoid the headache... lol

Sweeping Strikes requires the two targets to be within a certain distance of you.

Cleave requires the two targets to be within a certain distance of _each other_.

It's subtle, but if both aren't hitting try backing up so the mobs reposition then taking a step forward.

I find SS to be a mixed bag ... like the OP I find it is fussy unless you have the mobs positioned correctly. Advice on walking backwards to get mobs to cluster is good - although not always effective on the first go as one mob can sometimes stick to your back.

The main reason I've stuck with SS is the sheer "pull your bacon from the fire" I get with Retaliation + SS - obliterating a pack of mobs in an eye-watering fountain of damage.

Like all warrior abilities - it just takes some practice and patience to use properly.

I just jump through the gap between the mobs if I find I'm not hitting one of them. The quick repositioning works 95% of the time.

SS is my favourite leveling talent. I'm really sad it got moved to the Fury tree as I like to level 2-handed arms. Guess my next warrior will be fury >.<

If you have to use Sweeping Strikes to win, you're doing something wrong. I never find myself using it, mainly because I kill things too fast as fury to have any use for it (and I'm still leveling, not 70 and epiced out). The fact that "this happens about 90 % of the time." means you must have been using it fairly regularly to be able to garner a useful statistical number, so arguably you're doing something wrong when dps'ing in general.

An interesting question is if Sweeping Strikes is open for dodges, parries, misses, and blocks. Maybe get check your combat log and see if you've just been unlucky with your hits?

yeah well... instead of getting cruelty, weapon spec, sweeping strikes, and mortal strike at 45, you'll get cruelty, imp slam, enrage, and sweeping strikes at level 32...

not a bad tradeoff....

well, when i said 90% of the time its because when it wasnt working, i was trying to make it work.... therfore purposely pulling extra mobs trying to get it to proc

RP - You are my freaking hero. After your explanation of how it works depending on the mobs being close to you, I have had no problems getting it to work at all.

My new favarite method of grinding, is to pull 2 mobs, and pop SS and then cleave them down, both mobs take double damage... they die faster then if i was just fighting one mob, and obviously i get double the exp. Its amazing, and i love it :P
