Druid TankingFollow

Ok, i'm somewhat confused... I have a friend who says that druids can hold aggro better than a warrior and can be much better tanks than warriors. My question to the druid community is how?

I haven't played my druid much but I have looked through the spells and abilities list and I don't see anything that could possibly make a druid in bear form a better thank than a warrior.

Can you guys please enlighten me or is my friend a complete and utter idiot?

Thanks in advance.

Your friend is not an idiot, but you might seem to be if you don't do a little "self learning" on this subject instead of just asking for an answer on a silver platter. (yes I'm a bit of a jerk, sorry, think of it as tough love)

I recommend that you read any or preferably all of the handful of "druid tanking" threads that are on the main page of this forum at this very moment, especially the one called Druid Tanking Guides and Links. Pretty self-explanatory. I recommend hitting the sticky while you're at it.

To throw ya a bone, druids are well known for being great tanks, especially being able to stand up to boatloads of physical damage with more armor and hp than comparably geared/level warriors, and for holding aggro on a single target better than warriors and pallies. Our bear form has a threat bonus just like defensive stance, and many of our bear attacks generate a lot more threat than the raw damage they put out. Prot-spec warriors are still acknowledged as the best end-game tanks because of the resistance plate gear, their ability to better deal with spell damage, etc., but it's rare to run into a party that isn't 100% accepting of, if not enthusiastic about, having a druid tank.

Also check out the thread "I want to improve my tanking" by Similyn. In it, Brisin gives a good 6 or 7 links regarding anything you could wanna know about drood tankage. That's all.

** The talent Hide of the Wild gives bear tanks extra stamina, meaning a bear tank will often have more health than a warrior.

** Dire Bear form multiplies base armor by 5.5 so a bear tank generally has a LOT more armor than a warrior

** As a rule, druid threat generation is often better than a warriors as well.

Druids don't have the same avoidance as warriors (no parry, block) or the emergency buttons (shield wall, last stand) but they do have excellent damage mitigation for physical damage fights.

I probably prefer a warrior MT and a druid OT unless I am DPSing then I love a druid tank because they keep the mangle debuff up for me :)
