This is a post i did about 2 months ago. Prior to any t5 gear that i have since aquired.

There is a point at which your ap will make your average rupture better dam than your average evis. A 5pt rupture = 1000dam+(.24*ap),
while a 5pt evis=
([(ap*.15*2)+985+1105]/2)/.79) *(1-armor mitigation(on average figure .3))= average evis dam(not including crits).
To calculate the average evis including crits=(1-crit%)*average evis + (crit%)*average evis*2
Assuming 1000 ap and 25% crit:
rupture=1240, evis=1059, 2108 crit, average evis=1321.
At 1000ap evis is clearly a better finisher, more average dam and a chance to do nearly double rupture.
1500ap and 25% crit:
rupture=1360, evis=1125, 2250 crit, average evis=1406
The gap is narrowing also keep in mind the armor mitigation for many bosses is higher than 30%.
Raid buffed I'm aprox 2500ap and 25% crit:
rupture=1600(2285 w/mangle), evis=1258, 2516 crit, average evis=1572
Rupture starts to win out with the higher average dam, not significantly, but it's higher and as you add a mangle it's very difficult to justify using evis as a finisher(at least in raids) unless you have an unbelievably high crit rate(read 35%+). Even if this is the case, if there is a feral druid in the raid rupture will be a better finisher, exceptions for light armored bosses/mobs of course.
As you can see i came to the conclusion that rupture>evis. But factoring in t5 2pc bonus, an extra +200 dam to aver evis(anyone know if that is added prior to or after crit? i thought it was just a straight +40 per cp), this does change the #s a bit.
The following are all calculated using 2500ap:
w/2pc t5 -
rupture=1600(2285 w/mangle) evis=1458, 2716 crit, average evis=1772
w/40% crit -
rupture=1600(2285 w/mangle) evis=1458, 2716 crit, average evis=1961
Now for the point of this exercise - a 0 mitigation instance(prev calculations were using 30% mitigation):
w/30%crit + 2pc t5 -
rupture=1600(2285 w/mangle) evis=1997, 3794 crit, average evis= 2536
Solving for the mitigation pt where the average evis>rupture given 2500ap, 30% crit and 2pc t5 bonus:
= 37% armor mitigation if no feral druid and no serrated blades
= 10% armor mitigation if mangle or serrated blades(not both, just 1 or the other)
= there is no armor mitigation point at which evis is better dam if you have serrated blades+mangle, rupture=2560 w/mangle+serrated blades.
It would require an increase to 33% crit and a 2.7% armor mitigation to make the average evis> imp rupture+mangle(and a wacky spec like 8/29/24).
Too tired to look up how much armor a mob would have to have in each of those cases and give examples, but there should be a few mobs where those armor values match up. Also keep in mind that the evis #s really only apply to a full combat build and as i said earlier if you're trispec hemo(11/2x/2x)(imp rupture, no agression, most likely no imp evis) there is really no way your average evis will ever be greater than rupture.
(It would take a 70% crit rate at 2500ap+2pc t5 to make untalented average evis dam>rupture w/mangle+serrated blades and would also require a mitigation of only 2.1% as well) Edited, Dec 12th 2007 4:04am by mahlerite
