When to head to Outlands?Follow

Ok, I'm leveling my GF's pally because she's busy with school, etc.

I have a 70 pally I leveled a long time ago. I have a 65 warrior I'll probably do instances with her on when she's high enough.

I switched her to prot at 42. It's been great! I picked up Flury Axe and Fiery enchant. Awesome stuff. I can grind 6 - 7 mobs easily.

She's 52 now.

At what point should I move to Outlands?

Maybe at 55 and make her Holy? Have my 65 warrior tank Ramps and her heal? Probably a few runs of Rested exp per level.

My end game goals for her are undetermined yet. Probably raid healing since it's not as complicated as the other talent specs.

Name is Justinera on Uther server if you want to Armory her.

I thought I'd add her Armory link to make it better.

I was gonna say some nonsense about having to wait till 58 to step through the dark portal, but it so happens that a Mage could port you to Shatt. Still more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion.

I'd wait till 58 myself, and actually I waited until 60 to actually go to Outland. That way you're not overpowered by the first mutant pig you run into.

There are still a lot of quests in Azeroth and with the lowered XP values to level I'd think it'd be pretty quick anyway.

Going at 58ish makes sense, in my view, to do the first 5-6 quests to upgrade your gear (or several pieces of it) to Outland greens. That's just a flat out character power upgrade, and it's worth doing imo.

After that, my view is that it's best to go back to Azeroth and do quests there until you hit 60 or even 61. You will (1) have an easier time with Outland quests at a higher level), (2) progress to 60 plenty fast due to the increased quest XP in Azeroth and the lower threshold for 60 and (3) save Outland quests so that when you hit level cap, you will have more quests left over that you can use to grind cash for an epic flying mount or whatever else you want cash for at level cap.

I would have to say 58 as well. You can't get any quests until that level, so I don't see much of a point in going there before 58. If you wanna try to run Ramparts before 58, and find a group for it, that'd be different (if you can make it work, would be nice XP), but fully transitioning to Outland pre 58, I'd say forget it.

I'd actually wait till 60, even if you're prot/holy those first few lvls are brutal and the aggro radius especiall with those freakin hellboars is just insane.

I would like to comment though a little off topic, I find it funny that the OP has speaks for his girlfriend.

Not to belittle the OP, but what does your girlfriend want to do endgame wise? Just kinda find it funny that this guy is essentially talking for his girlfriend as if it's essentially his pally instead of hers.....oh well, sorry for going off topic.

I'd still hang around ol' Azeroth till 60, run BRD or LBRS for kicks and a few decent drops and then once you hit 60 you'll be able to burn through hellfire in a few hours without to much hassle.

I'd hit OL at 58 as protection and grab the first few quests there and flightpaths to Shat. Switching to holy at 58 will still make getting to 70 slow, even if all you do are instances. I switched to holy from protection at 70 (unless you want to do some end-game tanking).

Yeah, 58 is a good level to run in there. Honestly, the aggro radius and survivability doesn't change much from 58 - 60. Just suck it up, learn that you have now entered hell, and practice your aggro dodging. And if you are on a PvP server than watch the skies.

When I was around 58-60 a 70 rogue flew down, dismounted in the air and one-shot me(maybe it was a vanish ambush in the air, I dunno if you can do that). I was pretty mad at the time, but thinking back on it it was pretty cool.

Personally, I went to Outland at level 56. I was an enhancement shaman so even in mail AND getting up close an personal with the level 59 pigs I was doing fine. Keep in mind I didnt have awesome gear for my level. I would say it was about average.

I say with plate armor and protection spec 56 is a very real goal. It was easy for me. I leveled from 56 - 58 in less than 24 hours. I was in rested and getting over 1k exp per kill.

Well you were an enhance shamy, not the same thing as a prot pally. Enhance shamys if played right can tear through enemies pretty quickly. A prot has to sit there and wait for them to die. Can they kill the 58 mobs at 56? Yes. Will it take 3 times longer than the Enhancement Shaman? Totally.

I assumed he would take a long time to kill things as prot. I also assumed that he would know this. I'm saying the extra mitigation and armor values (given the pally will be in plate) will grant him much more survivability than I had wearing mail and dual wielding.

wow, lots of great input.

I had her start a char a few months ago to see if she liked it. She got busy, so yes, I took over her pally and really enjoyed prot leveling.

She doesn't really understand all of the complex raiding mechanics, so I was thinking that healing from the back would be the "simplest" thing to do/learn.

So my goal was to get her to 70 ASAP.

Prot grinding works well Pre-BC. but I heard that in BC it's not great due to casters. So I'm looking for alternatives and ways to get her up. I only play once every few days to let her rested exp build up. I grind out a full rested level in a few hours now.

Maybe at 57 with some of that cloth "of the physician" gear she could Main Heal a run through Ramps? I agree it sounds the best with the thought of me tanking it. Heck I'd even bring my 70 prot pally if the exp won't go down.

My warrior went to Outlands at 56 and just killed single mobs to get up to 58 easily. I just wondered if you guys had any ideas to help me level up to 70 faster.

Side note, Any good grind places in BC I should know about? Just look for Melee only mobs right? no casters, fast respawn timers, etc.

FYI - I'm not on a PVP srver, just PvE.

Main heal? I'd say maybe. The issue you'll most likely face in places like Ramps will be mana. Outland has plate healing gear that is a major step up, so if you're coming in with stuff from pre-BC, you might (and I say "might") be limited. It also depends on your group make-up. A Shadow Priest may help aid your mana/health regen. Worse case, you find out you can't and you come back at 60 which, with the XP in Outland, can be reached in about 27 seconds.

Leveling to 70 can be two-fold: 1) grind like a champ. The Hellboars in HP are okay, but I enjoyed grinding the Orcs above the Path of Destiny (the ones actually down in the Path of Destiny hit pretty hard till you're closer in level to them). The respawn rate is okay. So are the Undead in the armory south of Honor Hold and the bugs along Razorthorn Trail. At 57, though, you may want to carry some extra water and food since you'll take a bit of a beating. At least I did.

The second method is doing quests which, combined with grinding, is probably the fastest. Some people prefer to head to Outlands as soon as they can and hold off on quests until they hit 60 (so that when they hit 70 they have more "left-overs" for earning gold for that epic riding mount) while others start immediately. It's entirely up to you, but there is some decent pally plate to be earned from the initial quests.

Anyway, just some thoughts. My guess is you'll be hitting 60 before you know it and then it's off to the races for your gf's pally. Best of luck with the leveling!
