Hey guys, I'm debating about what main weapon to use. Currently I'm using Greatsword of Horrid Dreams along with a green offhand. If I want to I can pick up The Bringer of Death off AH for about ~100g on my server.
Keeping enchants in mind (I've got a friend who could get me major spell on the staff, not sure what 1h enchants there are) which would be a better option? I'm gearing up for heroics right now, and possibly doing kara down the road if I can find the playtime. If I keep the GSoHD any good offhands to suggest (I already did the SH quest with the offhand blue and vendored it before I got the sword >.<) I'm a 17/0/44 frost mage who does mostly PvE but the occasional battleground and a 2v2 arena with a friend (we're horrible, but just doing it for fun mostly lol).
Thoughts? Thanks.

The offhand from heroic badges is awesome(either the one with the haste or the one with your spec's damage type). Barring that, there's a good one in Arcatraz and a good one in Black Morass, if memory serves.
I'd recommend staying with the 1h + offhan. There's only one staff in the game I'd trade my 1h + offhand combo for, and it drops from Illidan.

QFT. Onehand/offhand combos offer more raw +dmg stats, so are better for PvE. If you PvP, find whatever gives the most stamina at the least loss of other stats, so usually (but not always) a staff.
As for the Enchanting part of your question:
The 40 spell damage and the 30 intellect are both one handed enchants. One handed enchants can be put on either 2 handed or 1 handed items. Therefore the best enchant for it is going to be +40 spell damage or the Frost spell damage enchant from Kara.

to be a bit more precise about the frost spell damage to weapon, it is called soulfrost and gives you +54 to frost and shadow spells. It is however much more expensive than the +40 spell damage one (on my server anyways).

that enchant really is much more expensive. I can see a warlock putting it onto one of their weapons (assuming they get a nice high-end one that will not need to be replaced for a long time) but for hte most part I have stuck with +40 spelldmg.
I'd have to think long and hard about soulfrost.... I mean... What if you respec to fire or arcane... ever.

I prefer to go 1h/offhand. Right now i have the season 1 spellblade and the haste offhand from badges. 232 spelldamage and never had to worry about getting a single drop :). I do Kara, Gruuls, and ZA once a week and spend the rest of my time getting honor and badges or playing on my sham. So if I do happen to get the dagger drop from ZA or Kara i can use that. If a staff drops I can use that as well and still have a great offhand if say I get the Kara staff one week then the ZA dagger the next.
Lamp of Peaceful Radiance is a great off-hand because of the Crit/Hit/Damage on it as Poldaran mentioned. Goes great with your sword. I agree 1h / off hand is the best, soon you will be fighting the prince and he may possibly give you his pretty sparkley Nathrezim Mindblade.
