Hi guys I have a few questions. I'm a level 50 fury warrior, I pretty much soloed to 50 and never done any instance tanking before. Now that I'm getting bored of soloing I want to give it a try. My question is, I hear you need 2 sets, dps and tanking? What is the difference between them? I mainly focused on stam and str but how do you distinguish between the 2? I'm guessing for tanking set you need a shield and a sword isntead of 2 swords, but what else? How do I know if its a dps piece or tanking piece, is it all just by number? Also when u are tanking you always stay in defensive stance correct?

Thank you.

Tanking and dps are discussed separately like everything about the warrior

Thanks, I read that already and they don't tell the difference between dps and tanking gear, it just goes into mechanics of how dpsing and tanking works.

At that level I only had 1 set of armor and did just fine Tanking. It was a mix of Imperial Plate and "of the Bear" gear.

Tanking gear will normally have + defense rating, + block rating and sometimes + dodge rating.

DPS gear will have + hit rating, + AP and + crit rating on it.

AFAIK, there wasn't that much of this type of gear available to a level 50 warrior. It became more prevalent once you hit Outland.

Similarly to Scolariman, I too just had one set of gear at that level for both tanking and soloing. You should do fine.

You will be in defensive stance for the majority of the time when tanking. Sunder armor and thunderclap will be your best friend. Just remember to move out of range of the CC'ed mobs before you thunderclap.

Good Luck

The only thing pre outlands that you REALLY need to tank decent is a shield and a 1H wep. A lot of healers and groups will get upset if you try to tank using 2 1 handers or a 2H.

You have very little choice over gear sets in Olde Azeroth. What happens is that a Blue DPS or Tank piece comes along that blows away any alternative. The only exception I can thing of is a helmet from Maraudon that has a phenomenal amount of armour but no stats. That would be used when you need to tank, and take the damage. You'd keep your existing helmet, with its worse armour, but superior stats for regular levelling.
Really it's the difference between your grinding weapons, maybe you Dual Wield, and your instance weapons, Sword and Shield.

Tank pieces will have superior STAmina and Armour, bonuses to defense / resilience/ block rating, DPS pieces will have Strength and Agility, bonuses to Attack Power, Crit Rating.
